Thread: Stronghold Specialization?

I've tried my best to make our city a military stronghold... so far we have 70 citizens and 2 imperial faction bases...one right accross from the city hall..

Next Update I'm considering getting the stronghold specialization...does anyone know how a 50 bonus to defense roll works, what's its effect in battle, and if it really makes any difference?

With citywarn being removed I can make alot more people part of the milita and it would really help in our bases defense.

Cid,

Dont waste your time, the removal of /warn in next update will make "stronghold" useless..

no more wanton killings, but bonus still applies, if your defending your HQ, is it worth the extra cash to defend them? I think so

I am curious too how effective this is. I don't understand how everyone sees it as completly useless with the removal of /citywarn. An overt militia member is STILL a militia member and will benefit from this specialziation. A faction HQ placed within city limits defended by a large overt militia would theoretically be the best use of this specialization.

I plan on using this specialization for a week to test ( starting tomorrow, can only change once per week ) I'll try to do some before and after testing just to see how much of a difference it does make and report back here.

But does the roll count for a faction TEF or only a city TEF? Is a TEF a TEF and it doesn't matter. If you get the bonus for any combat in town it may still be worthwhile. If the bonus is tied to a city TEF, which no longer exists, then it is a waste of money.

ok you guys are forgeting this game follows the same basic principles as AD&D

yes I understand some of you don't know what a die looks like and have no concept f the greatest boardless board game ever...

but here goes...

you attack: you roll a 100 sided die and come up with a 55

the defender rolls another 100 sided die and comes up with 60... he succesfully defends

he now counter attacks and rolls 1D100 (100 sidded die) for 95... pretty tough attack... hard to beat

you defend and are in the militia of a stronghold you roll 1D100 for 50 and add your +50 bonus... rool = 100 succesfull defense.

savvy?

ok.... so if have 100 against 95 meaning we successfully defend...what does a successfull defense mean? the other guy misses? we activate one of our defense abilities? Block/Dodge/Counter? what will a successfull defense mean for us?

a succesfull defense means the attack failed... whether you dodge, block, counter roll out of the way and come back up with a lolipop in your mouth is based on another roll of another die...

it's not a complicated system... some of us where doing this with pen and paper and ivory long before computers were the mainstay of turnbased gaming... and no matter how realtime it seems it's still turnbased regardless of what anyone might tell you.

true... but sometimes the defense bonus may only apply to "certain" situation...

like sword of dragon slaying... it gives +5 vs dragon but +2 normal... so only against dragon you get +5..

this is what some worry about.. if you only get +50 defense against TEF.. then you won't get that bonus...

but if it just +50% bonus = being in militia and fight within the citywalls.. that is a totally different ball of wax altogether

it's not 50% it is 50 points... and of course I'm assuming the AI rolls 1D100 but the basic principle remains and it's usage is clearly stated...

any member of a militia will recieve an additional 50 points on all defense rolls when fighting against a banned/warned... well not warned anymore... player in their city with stronghold specialization.

what this means? it is your city, your home, your territory... you defend it with greater fervor than you would anywhere else.

oh and those coming down on you with uber weapons that can lay you down in one fell sweep will have a much tougher time succesfully attacking you... which is the real point behind the specialization
