I know many, including myself, have dreamed of this position. It has been a goal for me since beta. But spending all these skillpoints on something that doesn't produce any revenue seems odd.

Every other skill point goes towards producing revenue somehow basically. But politician is a complete skillset without any revenue potential.

Either we need to implement politician missions or we need to have cities pay their politicians for services rendered.

I'm not being greedy, I'm rich in my own right, but spending points on someting that doesn't make an income is odd.

What do people think of paying their politicians for service? And if you agree, how much would you pay? Remember, a master takes up a full profession *a ton of skillpoints* that yields nothing in return except may ego strokings.

Don't get me wrong, I love being a poli, but those points truthfully are better spent on a moneymaking profession/skill.

I don't care about getting a salary, I can skim a little off the top whenever I want. j/k, hehe.

Actually, I am concerned about the 50k limit for withdrawing from the treasury. I need to purchase ore to make large gardens for this Friday, but it will take me more thantwo weeks to get the money out We have over 10 million that's just sitting there doing nothing.

Thats an interesting idea. But, I dont think we'll ever see it. It is entirely reasonable to take a cut of the taxes for yourself, just make sure your citizens know)

egads. i would never recommend keeping more than 2 million in the treasury. I'd suggest your 'borrow' for a rich member and pay them back over days. Or if you are wealthy, fund it yourself and pay yourself back

Why not keep that much in the treasury? That's how much our members donated directly to our treasury, before I even realized there was a 50k limit to how much I could pull out. Anyway, we're set for maintenance at least hopefully until I convince our crafters that sales tax isn't the end of the world (they're really up in arms over the double tax on stuff being offered to the vendor. They don't understand that the devs made that call, I'm not the bad guy here :smileysad.

it's just 'unsafe' keeping that much in one spot. That's why i wouldn't keep 10 million in the treasury. But since you do have that much, I'd forgo sales taxes till you have to have them. The 'duoble tax' is horrid and I hope they change that but it isn't that much when it's a 3% tax. Cheaper than the bank transfer fee.

Yeah, I dont understand the fear of a Sales Tax either. 1 or 2% is a pittance. As for the Salary thing, its a toughie. I also do not need the maony, but it may be that someone out there isn't and is Mayor. Yes, I am botherd by the fact that eventually 77 precious Points will be sitting in a rather boring profession. I had hoped they would add another 15 or so skill points to our pool. That would at least pay for the Nov Poli box.

It doesn't seem too "out-there" for them to implement a system where the Mayor is paid a Salary from the Planetary Government based on the city size. Basically, when the city update is done and funds ae deducted from the Treasury, the Mayor gets a deposit from the PG, and it does not come from the City treasury. Maybe something like 25k per Tier level. Free money like what comes out of the Mission Terminals, and for Mayors, the Mission is simply getting elected and spending the next week dealing with the city.

I'd also like to see more features for the Mayor, more abilities, more functins. Once the houses are down, the decorations are in place, the City Hall is decorated, and votes on taxes are done.....now what? I guess I just ignore my position for a few weeks and work on my combat skills.

I guess it always happens. People always want more.

No one forced you to be Mayor so if you don't like getting paid for it then you can always drop it!!! I am sure there are a lot of others out there that would love to be a Mayor and wouldn't ask for any kind of salary.

Being a mayor in SWG is an entirely philanthropic job. It is a lot of work, it is demanding at the start, it usually requires you to pay money instead of you making any money. Most times you have no time for anything else, PLUS, you have to give up other skills to have skill points enough to plant gardens and fountains.

I love it personally and don't care about the money...

They should make a Politician Mission terminal, that is what they should do, or they should have made this a hybred class

Exactly, while I 'presume' most mayors are independently wealthy, It may not always be so. This is the only profession that no thought whatsover went into about how to make money. For those who are not wealthy, this can be a huge deciding factor in whether or not they can even run for office. I'd just like to see some missions or something for politicians so they could make money through those skill points if needed. Probably never will as poli is such a small class, but would be nice.

I completely understand the business perspective. I opened a bait & tackle shop in a merchant tent to add r/p flavor to our city. I lose 20k credits per day on that since I could be harvesting power instead of having a 'fun' little shop. But I think it's still worth it even though it hardly makes business sense.

*chuckle* I am HARDLY independantly wealthy. I make average of about 30k on a good week between the sporadic pet sale and running the odd mission with citizens, usually have about 10k in my pocket, and actually currently have about 2k. The money gets spent about as fast as I make it on shuttle fees, training, city improvements (I pay for these out of my own pocket, the town pays the maintenance), maintaining placed houses while people save to buy them due to upgrades and such, paying entertainers and doctors, etc. Personally, I'd love to see a mayoral salary, not only because I know how tough it can be to actually make it out of town to run a mission (and we're by all means not all crafters, here), but because I think it could encourage people to be better mayors.

They could implement a variable on the City Hall voting terminal, a slider for voting, of between 0 and 10% of tax income (not donations, those would not qualify) to go to the city Mayor as their salary. The average of everyone's salary vote is what they get paid that week. An effective, helpful Mayor of a large city would likely make a fairly reasonable salary, while a Mayor who never did anything in town, had a lot of absentees, little traffic, and a low population would never get rich by any means.
