This is the week two for "This Week in Politics."

I'll make a new thread each Monday for use throughout the week for youto let me and the rest of the Politician community hear how things are going in your city, events planned, tips you might have learnedlike ways ofusing specializations efficiently, new facilities being placed, any interesting dynamics like mergers with new partners to grow your cities or issues of disagreement between your citizens, anything having to do with your politician skills, new skills, skills sold back, newissues, frustrating bugs, or just a quick status report. It will be easy for me to keep up with a digest version ofthe goings-on of the community this way, and perhaps a way for you all to get to know each other as players dedicated to the concept of building communities in the Star Wars universe.

I really enjoyed reading all the stories from your cities. Many of you included background information, since last week was the first week in this series of posts. Some of you gave little tips that might be useful to other politicians. Last week's thread filled up with news from the world of SWG politics, and attracted Thunderheart's attention as well, so I'd like to keep things rolling for another week.

The week in my city: If you read my account of the previous week, you might remember that I sold back some skillsand intended to buy them back with new XP, but that I failed to gain the XP for that week's election. Good news is that I got my 9600 XP for this week's election, andbought back the skills I needed to declare our city a Research Center.

I sent out a mail to "citizens" to announce that the best and brightest minds in the Galaxy were gather in our fair city, and that research on new prototypes and schematics would be more effective than ever. I also asked for feedback from crafters, did they see improvement in their experimentation results, did they create new personal best statistics on their crafted items? I got overwhemingly positive responses. The city crafters love Research Center. One Weaponsmith told me that increased value from thestats on something like a Krayt tissue Enhanced Rifle would make the weekly maintenance fee for Research Centerlook insignificant. I got several suchmessages giving me specific stats, that the crafters claimed were the highest they had ever been able to achieve.

Made me feel good about my skill point expenditure to make such a big impact on so many other players.

OK, what's going on in your cities?

Vicimus Naboo Wanderhome

This past weekend has seen the departure of long time friends, KEG, from Vicimus under less than desirable circumstances, but life is not always desirable.Vicimus, altho smaller than is was, will recover quickly. We still have nearly 100 citizens after the exodus and will get along just fine.

I anticipate some remodelling of the city layout will occur to fill in some spots and place things in a better position to allow us room to grow even more. As always, interested persons can feel free to contact Okie, Magna, Khazmo, Sesik or Jost after visitting us.

We look forward to great things with Vicimus in the future.

This last week in Nabubu City on Wanderhome we had an alarming number of citizens leave the game or move out. At one point in the week we were at 159 citizens sure to crack the elusive 160 mark, but then we dropped to 150. A few more moved in and then a few more left. We went into the week with 156 citizens, reached a high of 159, never dropped below 150, and now stand at 155 with a net loss of one resident. Not too bad I guess. Nabubu City continues to be the largest city on Wanderhome and if my estimates are correct we are in the top twenty or thirty in the game.

Research Center is starting to pay for itself with the amount of crafters taking resident in our city. We have 0% sales tax but have a 250 credit shuttle fee. The shuttle fee coupled with the amount of traffic coming and going is adding a sizable amount of cash to the treasury. If we get 500 players a week buying tickets to leave the city that pays the 125,000 credit cost for the Research Center Specialization. The deal I made for the merchants/crafters in the city has always been that I will keep a 0% sales tax if they remained stocked to bring in the volume of traffic we need. This has payed off and is working out very well.

Another thing I have been doing is polling the citizens periodically to find out what trainers they need to have in town. One point of view is to have the rare trainers that are hard to find in NPC cities in an effort to bring people in from outside to the city in the hopes that they will support the local merchants while there. However since the trainers produce no money for the city directly this is not the most effective way to place the trainers. The approach we are taking is tohave the trainers that the citizens need to use the most.A tip for all of you Mayors out there: Don't place your maximum number of trainers, leave one open. I can place 15 trainers but I have 14 down. If one of my citizens needs skill-training and can't find anyone to teach them, or we don't have a trainer for that I have them send me a /tell and I drop what they need long enough to get trained. After they are done I pull the trainer and have the citizen make a donation of 1500 credits to the City Hall.

I would like to invite all of you, my fellow Mayors, to come visit Nabubu City. I'm fairly certain you have yet to see a city so well planned out that takes up such a large area. Our city has a distinctive look containing obvious streets and neighborhoods. We even have a few rogues hiding in back alleys for you to find (they look best at night). If you are coming to visit Wanderhome from another server, start a character on Naboo and shuttle to Nabubu City. When you step off you will be immediately greeted with the grand view of the plaza. You'll have to see it to appreciate it. Send a /tell to me, Tempel, when you want to drop by. I'd like to meet you.

From FLURRY

Triconica on the planet Lok has reached Metropolis. Below is a city update.

In Celebration, the Metro will sponsor a vehicle race- The winner will receive 500k in credits and will be immortalized forever with a statue placed for everyone to view.(an Imperial better win!!!) Look for a post called Loks Race for Immortality with details

Treatment of visitors - The following policy has been set in place. All Imperials and Neutrals are free to travel the city. Covert rebels are treated the same as Neutrals. The city has an area of sensitivity to the North East were four Imperial bases are active. All Neutral players in this area will be asked for the reason they are in this area and they will be scanned to verify they do not have any rebel associations. The dropping of scanners will only be authorized in the North East Side of the city. Any Rebel found or identified in the city will be shoot and banned. Any player banned can be pardoned after 24 hours.

Commerce - We have worked hard on bringing in vendors to the city. We currently have over twenty vendors, offering a variety of goods. These vendors are located in front of the shuttle in tents and in the Triconica Bazaar hall. We have added a Logistics Center for those who have chosen a career in crafting. We added a bank in this area as well as several public factories. The city also boost a variety of trainers as a service for the galaxy. These trainers are located around the bank in the center of the city.

City Development - City officials are working hard to continually develop the city. With an Improved Job market as the specialty. That way the citizens and visitors of the city can get the most out of the missions they complete. We are currently working on completing the construction of our zoo, museum and Temple. We are also in the prosess of hiring an Events Coordinator to give the citizens and the pubic the opportunity to have fun and win some great prizes. We have blocked off certain areas of the city to develope housing and the ability to support another guild.

Here is a map of the city.

Howdy

The city of Villa Sura on Naboo-Wanderhome was quiet for the most part. We are still adding2 or 3 citizens a week and this is stillwithout any advertising. We'vebeen getting a number of visitors over the last 2 weeksor so and have appreciated their compliments that we are not a ghost town andactually have people in the city.

I put down a few more decorationsaround the city and in the City Hall and Cantina.

The first city auction went extremely well. Theauction of a Holocron and 2 Life Day Orbs brought in over 500K to the treasury. The intent is to have weekly auctions from donated items from the citizens. Looking to have a live auction in the near future.

Since we have been found out now about the large number of resource deposits we have always had in this location the number of harvesters around the city has increased...The good thing is that the shuttle is used quite a bit the bad thing is now I have to be fast to lay down my harvesters.lol......Also, many of the high %deposits fall in the city or just on the edge.....For some savvy citizens who ask, some how Ive accidently allowed temp zoning rights for them at the edge while at the same time my "campaign fund" has increased....Got to love politics!!!

Thats about for this week

Happy Trails.

The City of Skyfar (Naboo, Bloodfin, -3980 6350) continues to thrive and prosper going into its 5th week. We currently stand at rank 4 with 75 citizens, and are not really actively pushing for 85 yet considering the level 5 cap bug. We declared our research specialization last week, and I just placed our theatre two days ago. Overall, the city is shaping up extremely well, and I'm very happy with both our progress and our citizens.

As always, I am maintaining 0% taxes on everything except the shuttleport which carries the standard 100cr/trip tax. The treasury iskept at a respectable levelthrough donations from our master crafters (and others who have large excesses of cash), who have really answered the challenge of keeping taxes away for those citizens who may not have a lot of disposable income. We currently have 11 vendors last I counted, and more crafters placing them every day. I am in the midst of some urban renewal toopen up our center square somewhat and place more merchant tents that our merchants have been requesting, and the process going well, albeit slightly more slowly than I would have liked.

This coming Saturday, January 31 is our first official player event (well, events really, but they're all part of the one big event) and our official inauguration celebration. Please check the Bloodfin Player Events posting for more details.

    City: Basinia, Naboo
    Server: Chilastra

Basinia is in its second week of being a Research Center, and our crafters love it. They report continued wonderful results, and I have become thoroughly convinced that it is a smart use of funds.

We continue bug-free (except for my continued fear of placing/redeeding parks close to civic structures,) for a second week in a row, for which I am eternally grateful.

I reached Master Politician this past week. I feel a sense of happy accomplishment, as this is one mastery that can truly be called a group effort, as without the citizens, one would never achieve it. I am remaining hopeful that some interesting things will be added in for Masters to provide to their cities.

It was a quiet week around Basinia. We were pleased to welcome a handful of new citizens, and our population remains in the 90s. City Center is alive, and most city beautification projects are complete. A few more parks and terminals will go in, but most of the heavy construction is settled.

Our Urban Planner, Zabu, has done a phenomenal job, and our layout is filling out and nearing completion. Here are pics of our full city plan and city center:

City of Basinia: This is the full layout. There are some more houses yet to be added, notably in the East and North Quadrants, as well as moving some of the factories to their intended locations, etc., and a few of the parks in the outskirts are not currently placed, but it is, for the most part, complete as shown. (The pink/purple areas are water. We are on the beach north of Theed with one river border and one ocean border.):

    City: Valshara, Naboo

    Server: Valcyn

This week we had our first open air swap meet. Sure, plenty of people came through, but I made a huge error in not confining it to a certain timeslot. Perhaps next weekend I'll do that. Theat way we can get the most amount of people there at once trading and whatnot. However, those that did roll through bought lots of stuff from our vendors. I sold about 400k worth of furniture and odds and ends. Not bad.

A former citizen left the world, and in appreciation of our hospitality, left us a couple million for the city treasury, which certainly helps since we spend 500k every week. We'll have a plaque made for her and placed in the city hall. Everyone donating over a mil gets that now.

Still anxiously awaiting the ability to make an Industrial Society. We have 2 more guilds possibly joining us. There are mixed emotions over the neutrals coming to live in a predominantly Imperial city, but we need them for commerce, otherwise we might as well be a stronghold, and those towns tend to be ghost towns. They're not vibrant and full of life and activity.

We're hoping to hold the first ever Mayor's Convention in a couple weeks right here in Valshara. Of course, this will be open to all mayors, so I expect a fair amount of Rebels to be in town, with their entourages. The militia is **edit** near crippled as it is without citywarn, so I hope I can count on them to stay near the shuttle and tell overt people to leave and come back covert. Might get a little bloody, but that's ok. I'll make sure to specify not to come overtor with a TEF in the description.

We're at around 95 citizens and growing. I'll be happy at 120.

I forgot something. After becoming the first Master Politician on Wanderhome I've dropped all the skills to a level where I can maintain the Research Specialization, continue toplace Skill Trainers, and add back any streetlamps if I want. I'm now at 4/1/2/1 with 32,000 XP left to use if and when I need it. I could actually use it all to go back to Master now if I wanted.

    Azaki, Talus, Infinity

We had another week of people flocking to our township and it looks like we can get the final 6 needed for us to grow at the next update and finally get our shuttle. We're still the biggest city on Talus and the only one on the planet map and so we're getting quitea few tourists dropping it to take a look.

We finally placed our clone center last night and it was only minutes until it was put to use bringing back one of our residents. He came back as the same species and with the same number of limbs and so we have declared the center to be working perfectly and work is now commencing to make the building look a little more inviting inside.

There was a little bit of PA friction caused by having two in the same city, but everybody seems to have worked their differences out now. There was also a moment of excitement when an imperial installation turned up just outside the borders and started scanning for coverts, but Azaki is a neutral city and so most of the population wasn't effected. The installation was removed by a few enterprising citizens before long.We have our suspicions about where the structure came from, and if we're right there may be interesting times ahead.

Met one of my citizens in RL !

We held a racing challange this weekend and had some 15 swoopers ride a track we made in the south west quuadrant of Tatooine - visiting POIs (so the drivers get badges if they weren't already there) - going through neighbour cities (so working togther with them to organize) - and having some tention in the race through riding by the sarlacc that diseased about half the racers

Sadly the event cost a lot of money due to the high prizes we set out in hope of attracting a lot of people ... but it was a lot of fun - especialy the after-party on which a citizen proposed to his loved one!

The Vendors in our city are sadly getting more and more empty as more and more are still hologrinding, but the market place was a bit livelier this week than the last. Hope this trend goes on.

Had two proposals of 30 player PAs moving in, but both parties latter decided to rather build their own PA-only city.

It was a quiet week in Last Hope.. had the normal raid parties coming in from the Fort, and business was good at the Mall.. in fact, we celebrated the Grand Opening of Czerza Corps.. we'd been looking forward to their reps coming into our town, and the addition of rare commododies has been quite a draw.

Several citizens moved out (I tend to think it was eviction for non-payment of rent) but we regained almost the same number moving in.. so our population has remained static. I'd gotten the standard "So when do we get a shuttleport?" question from a number of the newer residents after I'd sent out the weekly newsletter; sadly, I'd had to answer "We'll have to wait and see". The Planetary Authority again denied our request for an expansion, but I'll keep sending those letters.

We added two new gardens this week to the mall.. come sit in our new cafe garden and enjoy a crappachino after making your purchases.

I was distressed to find that one of our former citizens has still left his abandoned building in Last Hope.. even though I've sent him a "cease and desist" notice, I've received no word on when he intends to remove it. On the plus side, one of our residents has upgraded to a larger home.. we congratulate him on his investment.

We're still waiting for the ribbon cutting ceremony on the LoneStar Bar.. will keep everyone updated, since this event will be quite a party!
