Can't shake this off...

This board has about as much activity as a dead fly on sticky trap...

Either the Politicians are just lurking waiting for our correspondent to produce a bone to toss us...

or the Politician is a dying profession.

I happen to feel it's a combination of both.

Every city has some citizen that has an alternate account that is some sort of mule or buff bot. These are the new mayors haha, it will be happening soon in my city. There is no reason to go to master politician and for that matter once gardens are placed and decorations set there is very little reason to keep that tree. Unless your city wants a specialization of a certain type a politician can get away with 2220 at most sometimes even less. Although I am very greatful for the fact that you don't have to master the whole profession to get what needs to be done, done, because its a damn waste of my skill points if I have to master this profession.

I have to admit, I currently have master politician, but I'm seriously considering dropping as much as possible.

The Master box is totally useless.
Who needs a stronghold ? For faction terminals, get a base.
Our city cant fit a large/exotic garden in, due to landscape & placing limitations, and I cant see us adding any more gardens.
Currently, we are switching between Improved Job Market and Research Center specs, if we could decide which to keep, that would free up even more points.

About half of the politician is totally, and utterly useless. This needs changing ASAP, and IMO, politician should take less skillpoints than other professions.

This forum is dead.... We need to drum it up with some useful debate, or perhaps ideas on new politican content.

It's hard to do that with all the other coming changes that have been happening, such as the Imperial Crapdown and the combat revamp. Player city issuses just seem to be back-burner right now cuz the rest of this stuff affects player cities and non citizens alike...so I'm sure they're concentrating more on that, and throwing us a bone like player city garages to try to keep us happy.

I can sorta understand this - I'd rather they focussed on one thing and got it *right* than try to spread too thin across all the problems and not solve them. Hopefully, the time they're taking with the combat revamp will mean it's well thought out and playable...

well if you think about it the cross section of politicians in the game is considerably less than any other class...there are only what, 1,000 of us or so out of how many? this is hte reason for lack of activity...plus our correspondant is wonderful and we dont have to ask any questions...he pretty much gets us before we have them!

The droid engineers did this for months, we ran all sorts of ideas threads, with zero response prior to the droid invasion. I gueess the diffrence is, we don't have anybody saying "you are next" or "we are working on your issues"

I love being a master politican, I just wish i could say to someone "I can do that because im a politican"

Im sure we all have a few ideas we would love to kick around, and that way we are prepared when it becomes our time (in Publish 15)

This is very true; however, I belive the heart of the problem is once we do this its only needed once or twice. Once our city has all the amenities it needs there is very little use for our skills. The role-playing and managing the city after that requires no in-game politican skills

I think I would like to see a statement from a developer on how the politician and the player cities fit into the grander scheme of things. To me, it seems as if player cities are just out there as another way to 'add dynamic content' to the game, with little reason for their existance to begin with.

I recall when player cities were not in the game. Many of us started our own 'cities' and set things up like houses to be marketplaces, the PA Hall acted like our City Halls for function, we layed our houses down to form streets (if we chose to do this), and finally started these cities close to the game's maincities where all the conveniences like trainers and shuttles were to be found. Even without player mounts, most of us could run to a city from our havens in less than 2 minutes.

Maintaining a player city is a chore. Sure, we get to do some neat stuff with a player city, but as has been mentioned once you lay down your civic structures, gardens, and decorations, the politician becomes a 'janitor' of the city. His main job is to watch the city treasury, recruit folks into the city to replace those who leave, and maintain the city ranks. This begins to get old real fast --hence the reason for Mayors becoming restless and leaving the profession.

Player Cities are at risk of self-imploding with the new '6 weeks you are out' patch. Mayors have little real power in a Player City and can not change or influence the GCW in any meaningful manner. Most of what we were, has been nerfed. Anything that we dream of becoming has not been acknowledged.

Something is wrong in Dodge.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, SacredNemesis.

We really need that bone...and soon. I'm sitting here as a Master Politician on my primary character. I am first and foremost a roleplayer in this game, so I've managed to live this long in that situation. But now that our city is complete and a meaningful refuge for our citizens, I'm finding that the roleplaying aspect can only carry on so far. I have the feeling of sitting here watching the world go by. Others are working on their professions or, having mastered them, out in the field plying their trade. Me? I'm exactly as you put it, merely a custodian. I make sure the treasury is fine, help people move in or out, and answer the barrage of questions from everyone who thinks that Mayor means I must know everything. Oh, and everytime someone opensa Holo I have to run to town and put down the appropriate skill trainer. And that is where my 77 points go.

Each day is gets more and more difficult to hold onto these skills.

The one thing holding me here, and I'm sure that I'm not alone amongst mayors when I say this, is the love I have for the city I helped build. I want to see our city continue, and I want it to remain even after I've left. Unfortunately, I'm probably the only person in my city willing to take on this task because of the fact that the profession is eventually useless (especially now that the city is fully built). If I were to leave, the city would continue on just fine, but mayorship would no doubt go to someone's alternate character and the new mayor be nothing but a placeholder.

What we need is some hope. Hope that we will actually be able to find value in the skill points we've spent on this profession sometime in the future. We really need a statement of some sort as to our profession's direction.

The majority of the cities on my server tend to be ghost towns, collections of houses with no actual community. There are a few cities that are living, breathing creatures loved by their citizens. In most cases, this is because the city has a strong mayor able to maintain that city's life. I'm already starting to see some of these mayors on our server leave their profession, usually by setting up a puppet mayor instead, or at the very least seriously cut back on their skill boxes. With each of them goes a bit of the confidence in the player city system, and a bit of the character of their city as well.

A dead forum for a dead profession.

We have all made suggestions till we are blue in the face and it hasn't had any impact at all on the Devs. We responded to the request from TH for ways to improve the professions, and we hear nothing back. We had some great skills that enabled us to actually do some things for our cities (/citywarn and /cityban) but they got nerfed.

Realistically, once you have placed everything that needs placing, what else is there to do? Rearrange the City Hall decor yet again? Add or replace a couple of trainers? Without any means of co-ordinating residents its hard to get into r/p. All of the city "bonuses" cost so much that most residents consider them a waste of money and don't want them implemented.

We lost a couple of residents a little while ago and came close to dropping from Tier4 to Tier3, and thus loosing our shuttleport. We were worried about it and managed to get some new residents back into the city again to give us a nice buffer, but with the 6 week rule coming in, we are fairly sure we will drop down to 3 and loose our shuttleport. But guess what? we worked out that there is very little bonus in even having the thing!!! Most of the time its quicker to ride the bike to the nearest starport than it is to wait for the shuttle (and then have to run off the pas to buy a ticket - which normally means you miss the connecting shuttle!!).

This forum is dead as there is nothing for us to do. Its all been discussed before, suggestions have been made, most of us sound like broken records....so what else is there for us to talk about? I mean, is there a new loot drop that is applicable to us? Is there a new strategy or tactic introduced into the game?A new dungeon for us to discuss?, well No, No and No. Aside from the nerfing of /cityban and /citywarn, there has been nothing done on Player Cities since it was released.

Help and assistance is all this forum is good for at this stage.
