Thread: Politician Wish List: #1 Starship Terminal for Metropolis
Just a suggestion for this:
If you allow starship terms in player cities, there would be a need for a fee to land there (consider it a "docking fee"), there should be limited space, and not just anyone should be allowed to land there. All proceeds aquired from anyone landing there could go into the city, and prices can be set similar to shuttleports.
Also why should it be implemented, I mean it only has disadvantages, don't really see the point in it.
Limiting it to Citizens or selected people? Well would hurt your merchants, since people would probably fly to city's they're allowed to land. Again: Why? Its not that it would hurt anyone.
I like the starship terminal idea. Even with a docking fee and being limited to use by residents only, its still a nice bonusfor living in a metropolis that can support one.

This is not likely to ever happen. Nor is Bazaar terminals for player cities (but that might change before the start port thing does) the reason is that they don't want to kill off reasons for people to visit NPC cities. They want player cities to have their ammentities but they don't want to remove the reasons you go to the larger cities either.
You will most likely NOT see startports or any ship services in player cities.
Bazaar terminals don't really effect me. I haven't bought an item from them for a long time.
But if a starship terminal was added to a player city I really wouldn't have any need to go to a NPC city like you say. Since the doctor buff lines are a thing of the past and JTL's instant travel capability NPC cities could use some non-nerfage to keep players entered the city limits.
You will most likely NOT see startports or any ship services in player cities.

I'd hazzard a guess that the reason is actually a technical one. The problem being that Starports are single locations. Therefore if the city dies or demotes the ships would just vanish. Banks (the only storage related item in a city) OTOH are planet wide so it doesn't matter if the city loses it's bank.
Techincal considerations can be overcome if the motivation is right. I think there is a lack of motivation on this issue because the devs probably feel it would be counterproductive for the game to move more traffic out of the NPC cities.

Moving unneeded traffic out of NPC cities would do wonders for reducing lag....Seems incentive enough

I get just as much lag going into a player city (actually I've been rubberbanding back every time I approach mine in particular) as I do going into an NPC city.
