Thread: Fireside Chat: State of the Politician
[CLOSE-UP] flickering fire
[PULLBACK] a fireplace with flickering flames resolves on the screen. As we pull further it becomes clear that we are in a comfortable den and a light skinned Rodian wearing an orange Robe of Honor is seated in a corellian leather chair near the fire.
[PAN & ZOOM]Frame shot with Plinka from the waist up seated in the chair, light from the fire flickering on the treated corellian leather.
Announcer: Citizens, our Political Correspondent will now present her first Fireside Chat, the State of the Politician.
Plinka: Greetings, Citizens.
A new age is about to be upon us. An age of prosperity and of hope. An age of conflict and of peacemaking. An age of change and new ideals. An age of coming together to work for the greater good.
The Age of Cities is upon us and with cities come the people who will run them, the Politicians.
It has been my honor and privilege to work with the governing bodies of the Galaxy in testing and tuning the role of Politicians and their sphere of influence. It is a role unlike any other, reaching far beyond its modest skill tree.
Upon first glance, one perceives the Politician to be the builder of cities. And to a degree this is true. The politician decides what will go where, from the placement of the city hall to the parks and gardens of a cultured civilization. All of this is within grasp of the politician's hand but urban planning is such a small part of the role.
Much of what the politician will do is not defined by any one set of skills but instead falls into the realms of diplomacy, negotiation, and guidance. When I speak of cities, I do not speak of small populations of 20 citizens, but metropoli of hundreds. The politician will find herself seeking diplomatic solutions between disagreeing parties, negotiating new taxes with citizenry as she tries to balance the city budgets, and guiding her constituents toward a more prosperous future by setting the course of specialization for her domain.
Yes, more than any other profession in the Galaxy, being a politician is about playing a role. A role who's successes cannot be described in simple terms of experience, but instead from the satisfaction of the performance of duty and the prosperity of her fellow citizens.
Will you take up this role?
Should you decide that this is your path, be warned for you will be judged. Not by any commissions, but by the very people you lead. Should they decide you are not worthy of your post they can, by vote, oust you from office, replacing you with someone more agreeable.
The Galactic Planning Commission is set to release plans to the architectural schools that will allow the building of everything from simple gardens to shuttleports to the very city halls where you will hold office. These plans have been tested and although they may still be fine tuned, are ready for you to take and transform into cities.
This is an exciting time in the Galaxy and I look forward to watching you take up this challenge.
I wish you the best.
Good night.
[FADE]Front light dims to only the silhouette backlit by the flickering fire.
[PAN] Pan and zoom to fire.

Ah, can't you just feel the excitement in the air? ![]()

Nice writeup. Now... when?!
I don't need the exact hour. Heck, I don't even need the day. I'd just like to know if it's coming before this weekend, during the weekend when I have four days off (and wife visiting grandma!) or right around Thanksgiving when everyone and their brother is either playing or driving to visit grandma ![]()
Ball-park. Anything. I think it'd be rather unfortunate to dump this on Live this Friday. Fridays are bad patch days anyway, and this is the single most significant patch to come since Launch.
First of all, great post, Plinka ![]()
I think that post will have me smiling all day here at work.
Well, considering they are giving away free mounts on TC now that will go poof in a week, I would say it will hit live either late next week or early in the week 2 weeks from now.

Nice post! I love it when people get into the RP side of this game.
I have a question tho... You might have missed the PM I sent you or the two posts I made concerning this question, but we need confirmation of a statement by Greenmarine that you quoted in a previous post. The devs have stated before that faction bases could not be built in a player city and they would block placement of a city hall. You posted a quote by greenmarine contradicting this and adding that city militia will be able to help defend a base.
Our problem is we have a faction base whose owner quit SWG, so we can't remove it. Does greenmarine's quote mean that faction bases CAN be withing the city hall zone of control? Please help us, we need confirmation before the city patch.
Coming up next on GBC (Galactic Broadcasting Company): James Lipton and "The Actor's Studio".
Still waiting... I have a city to run, and I'd like to start running it! ![]()
News report from Naritus Galaxy:
It has come to our attention that political campaigning has already begun in the Naritus Galaxy. Anneke Rose a well known Twi'lek Tailor on Naboo, has cast her name into the political arena. Word has it that she is being backed by the powerful ZaraCorp corporation, and has already recieved several large donations towards her campaign. There is little doubt that as the election draws near things will get abit heated around the city of Theed as rumors of a political debate circulate. We will keep you informed of any new developments in this situation.
End News Report.
(Grin) Anneke Rose (Future Mayor!)
Couldn't help myself. =D Here you go:

The screen flickers and screams as the signal is being unscrambled. As the snow begins clearing a large metal room filled with many metal chairs appears. There are tons of gray banners overhead, and the sound of power and voltage courses through the monitor. In the front stands a tall Trandoshan behind a microphone with a few humans and a stormtrooper behind him.
"Alright, dogs! Listen up!" the lizard shouts, and everything falls silent. "We've been here many months now! Hard work; rough times; and even some attacks most likely sent by Leia herself to foil us! But we are a part of the Empire, which cannot be touched! We have doubled our numbers; we've tripled our effort; and even countered most of the assaults with ease!" With the last comment, the room flares in whistles and cheers.
After a minute when the room tones down again, Landren continues, "Today I bring good news. From the Emperor himself! After seeing how good of a job we've done setting up base and protecting our military research facility, he is finally granting us the status of Stronghold! What does that mean? It means we've gotten one of the highest promotions a Base can get! We're becoming an Imperial City. But much more than that of Bestine. We're a military stronghold. For our operations, we're granted shuttleport rights as well as a high-tech cloning lab! Lord Vader himself will be giving us direct orders! Our strike teams will be sent often to sniff out and destroy known Rebel encampments!"
Once again the structure erupts with commotion. People getting out of their seats and cheering and clapping. "I, Landren Darkwynd, will be working closely with many of you and our Imperial contact in the next few months setting this Base up to be a thriving Metropolis of the Empire! We will crush all opposition and grow even faster than we have thus far! I need everyones full support and 120% work effort to get this place rolling. Now! Go celebrate and take the night off!"
Landren pulls from the mic and converses with the people behind him as the monitor scrambles again and shuts off.

It probably could have used some touching up, but I did this on the fly from work, so I hope you enjoy it. =)
