Soe just needs to reverse something they did that made no sense. They need to go back to letting harvesters and houses burn up when the maitenance pool is empty. Sure solved a lot of problems.

unfortunatly, my town would be empty if that happened ![]()
so many of my guild have quit for EQ2 or WoW, or just vanished off the face of Lowca.

They put it in to intice people to return....they would look at removing it as cutting off potential return customers (less money) They might do it well after the CURB, but I am pretty sure it was put in so that when the CURB went in, people would look at coming back and knowing that their house is still likely up..go ahead and sign back in (more money).
SOE is all about running a business, not making it easier for a few mayors to make their city.

Good points.
Anyway I think there should be a 30 day cap on maintenance pool. Game time that is a long time for a useless building to take up space in an overcrowded area. but it is also long enough to give ppl some leeway and it isnt like they cant have someone else pay their rent if they go away for a month or two.

They won't do this for 2 reasons:
1. As with most corporations these days, SOE's focus is not on keeping current customers happy as much as it is on bringing in MORE money in the form of new & returning accounts. Their objectives with us are being met because we are still giving them money, so they won't care about us unless we are no longer giving them that money. It's the same as how the phone & cable companies will bend over backwards to attract new customers, while ignoring them once they have them. The whole purpose of the change to housing was to attract cancelled accounts, at the immediate expense of active ones.
2. If all the inactive structures delete with cancelled accounts etc. Then the truth about how few players are still around would get out, which would look very bad to potential new players & be very bad press for SOE in the gaming world.

not long ago, I remember reading rumblings about the Character purge of accounts inactive for longer then 6 months again. I believe it will happen sooner or later, since this will not only clear large tracks of land and server space, but it will also clear up higher level city spots of ghost metropolises and allow smaller more active cities to grow and thrive.

I disagree. That purge will happen later as SOE attempts to beguile cancelled accounts back to the game via promotions, expansions and veteran rewards. Surely you didn't think they thought up a whole series of veteran rewards just because they liked us. I mean how many have we had now?

That's just what SOE wants the new players to see.....
face it, it wont be happening for a while. They want players to come back. Trashing their home wont do that.

then people would see that people are leaving the game, and that might create a panic. Mind you, there's no reason to panic, but SOE worries so...
