WHY STREETLIGHTS SHOULD NOT HAVE A MAXIMUM.
As we all know we can only place 50 decorations on a lvl 5 city.
Can you belive it! Streetlights count as one.
as for a HUGE city like my own. Which is on RORI where it tends to be very dark at night.
i like keeping the place lite up. For many reasons:
trainers
gardens
terminals
fountains
entrances to public buildings {shuttlepad, cantina}
it be nice if they could let us place as many as we want.
Because they do cost 1k/week
Maybe they could cost 2k/week or something.
that way it could keep a handle on those small cities to not place as much
but for a large rich city it would show its fortitude and wealth.
which in turn could bring in more people to live there.
beacuse for myself i like placing fountains and streetlights w/ the name of the street.
which i find is acreative way to finding yourself in a city.
maybe even giving them a larger lighting radius depending on what type of resources you're using
well that's my 2 cents
P.S.ANYONE KNOW WHERE I COULD POST THISIDEA FOR THE DIRVs?

You got my support for that idea. My city is on Talus and it gets pitch black at night.

I like this, and I've actually tried to put street lamps up by individual houses and create a artificial path... but it's imposibble with the limit provided.
My only gripe is, street lamps tend to be used as a blockadge in a city with faction hq's. Now if they mad it where you can run through it, then I have np with it.. I could see people taking a big advantage from this.

You can be reported for doing this with statues (which block the entire entryway) and it's a bannable offense.
So if those Mayors want to be reported and banned from the game, let them.

No argument here.... if for nothing more than good looks. I really like the idea of one street light per structure.

While I agree and would love to place many more streelights in my city this is more of an issue of efficiency of the system. The more objects in an area the more database transactions needed between the clients and servers to properly render one's surroundings.
A lot of people take it for granted, but the level of customization we have in SWG is actually the reason there is much of the lag.
Think about this scenario - player Joe and player Jane walk into a zone within say 100M of each other. Jane's SWG client has to query the server to find what objects are in visible radius, their names, their position. Jane's client also has to query the server to see that Joe is there, that he is a rodian, that he is wearing a black duster, red ubese shirt, etc etc. Also has to get his skintone, height, body style etc. Some of the customizations on our toons have as many as 250 or so different varieties. For each attribute (eyes, eye color, chin, ears etc etc) each client near another has to query the server to properly render appearance. This is why in REALLY busy areas you get lag - it is the amount of uniqueness to each avatar.
I do like the customizations we have to choose from but it is the main cause for a lot of our lag issues in high-traffic areas.
Just remember, the more objects the more queries to the server to render. That is why they put limits on things in the first place.

If every building just came with porch lights and entrance lighting, it'd work just fine, and I would use my limited streetlamps elsewhere.

LAGMIGHT BE AN ISSUE...
but to be honest i dont see it happenning.
for one things its just streetlights.
not an entire avatar.
you make them cost more ex:2k/week
the more that is placed, the higher the cost.
it like to place my own streetlights infront of public buildings
for one thing, my cantina has 4 red lights infront
2 facing the entrance to light it up RED
2 facing each other w/ a round fountain.
when it comes to needing to lighten up the area
you just need 3 or 4 lights
for a small garden which is more then enough
so new people that come to town can see the Rebel Terminal there
or any other ordiances such as trainers.
streetlights wouldn't take up to much and
THEY'RE SO KEY TO MAKING A CITY LIVely.
i think the pay off outways the little resources used

I took the radical at the time decision that i would remove all trainers and most mission terminals from the city to allow room for CIVIC amenities.
If the streetlamps actually did some illuminating (not these wimpy trapped firefly lights)I could actually reduce the number placed if they illuminated better.
