Thread: Novice Politician running against Master Politician
If I am unguilded and reside in a Player City where 75% of the population are members of a particular PA, I know that I will be running for Mayor for a very long time before I get enough XP to become Master.
The PA is going to vote in their candidate every week until I can manage to win over enough people to vote for me. I'm fine with that. No problem.
But why would anyone want to vote for a Novice Politician over a Master Politician, even if the Master Politician got to the point where he/shedreaded the job and wanted to move on to something more fun for them in the game, and even if the Novice were bursting with enthusiasm about being Mayor?
I've also read that the incumbent Mayor will get all the votes of residents who don't bother to vote.
Make it almost impossible for a non-incumbent Master Politican to become Mayor.
Oh well, I guess it will be that much more exciting for me if I ever do win Mayor!!
What if a mayor surrenders his politican skills while in office?
What if the mayor's character is deleted? Does the mayor position become empty?
Hmmm lots of questions

It will be near impossible for you to become mayor of Mos Nova as my political party
has 98% of the possible voters. I do admire your ambition. You might have a better chance if you joined the right political party.
It depends on how the politicianXP garnered from votes actually works.
I know the politician only getsXP for the votes cast in an election once a week in one lump sum. What hasn't been clarified is if only the winner of the election gets XP or if anyone running in the race gets XP for votes cast for them.
If everyone in the election gets XP for votes cast forthem there is a way to have an orderly transition of power while not losing city services.
Assume you are mayor of a well established city and have reached Master Politician, but you want to level someone else in the community. In theory the Master Politician could stay mayor still winning elections while say 30-40% of the population put in votes for a new mayor. The Master Politician still wins the election while his successor is slowly moving up the tree. It would take a while, but this is how a city could level another politician while keeping the Master in place. This is all dependent on how the election XP is distributed.
Leana: Because the life of the City is the blood that runs through my veins. I want no other City... ever.
Grudge: Doh! the one person I thought might vote for me.
Well one might say you will have to be a bit politcal about leveling up. Basically why as a novice run against a master directly right away. You can go try to help found a new town or um I don't know talk to people in other towns and find some who are unhappy with their current leader. Using your political savy earn supporters and a power base and even if you don't win elections start gaining enough xp to give more things to offer people.
Running against an incumbent is always tough. They pretty much have all the advantages so to walk your road you will have to have good people skills and the ability to motivate the electorate. Wow kind of like real politicans.
Needless to say if you dont like being a real people person and don't think you can motivate people into activly voting for you then perhaps you will need to think about your choice of profession.
Also it may be good instead of trying to be the mayor of a huge city you may want to first try smaller towns and earn a rep and some xp so you can match the master on a more even footing.

Having already lost an election to Amo, I can state that losing politicians in an election do in fact get experience points. You also don't get exp for voting for yourself, only other players that vote for you are counted.
Potentially you could level up politician without ever winning an election, although it will be much slower than if you win :-)

it seems like most of the basic city controls are in the first boxes of the skills trees. i'm also going to assume that if a high level city with high level structures elects a novice mayor, their med centers and cantinas wont disappear ![]()
depending on the size of your city, and the professions of your residents, a master politician may not be any better than a novice, or one with the first row of skillboxes
