Thread: City Chat NOT IN TOP FIVE WHAT?!?
1)You can just create your own chat
2)Most cities are owned by a guild hence guildchat=citychat

True enough... except...
1) Creating a chatfor a city channel every time you log on, is at best tedious, and at worse prone to laziness. Recall your pre-guild days when you had to do this to keep your aspiring PA group together... not fun.
2) I don't know how many cities are owned entirely by a guild, but there ARE many cities out there that are composed of multiple guilds and individuals. Why not make communications between everyone more fluent?
I agree. The threads on what our correspondent gets to decide our top five issues were wen by so fast that we really didn't get the best list of things up there, in my opinion.
But then, I fight for the small things, like City Chat.
I have a city chat channel. I fight with my guild every day to use it, which is hard, because:
1) you can't just type /gu on any planet, you have to type /corellia.mp if you are off our planet
2) laziness, you have to join it each time
3) laziness, you have to create it daily
Convienience is not there, and I advocate for this strongly.

create the channel in the "Chat" folder ... then you can just typ "/mp Message" ... which is exactly as short as using /gu ... we used /kc since launch
2) & 3) laziness
write a simple little macro and mail it to all those who usually create the chat ... put in a nice message (maybe a Message of the day) ... some nice colors to attract attention (lazy promotion) ... put that macro on a F-Key Slot ... don't tell me your to lazy to press the shift-f12 key or something like that

Please forgive my ignorance here. But can you point me at some example of how to set this up. I'm the mayor of a city of 5 different guilds. I was guilded briefly but dropped out when player cities were announced in order to concentrate on building relationships with the guilds that were my targeted choices for my city. So I missed out on those early experimentation and discovery periods of chat channels.

IN order to make a city chat channel, you must daily:
1) Log in.
2) Right click on any chat tab (like spatial).
3) click join chat channel
4) navigate the drop down menus to select where you would like the channel to originate (don't choose the root (like Ahazi.chat or just Ahazi in my case) as you will get nothing but complaints and spammers.
5) click create chat channel
6) Now, this is yet another non-intuitive part:
a) the first line should only be 1-3 letters in length. It's the shortcut to your channel. For instance, my city uses MP.
b) the second line is a description, my city uses "Maris Paradis City Channel"
7) If you want to make the channel invite only, leave "private channel" clicked.
7b) If you want griefers to deal with at times, then remove the "private channel" selection.
Now you have your chat channel! Much easier than any ol' guildchat! ![]()

Here's what my macro looks like:
/chat create SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC 1 0 "\#3399ffKheraba-City.de\#ffffff - A place to call home";
/pause 1;
/chat join SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC;
The 1 means the chat channel is public set it to 0 if you want it private. Then you will have to extend your macro with a number of lines (simple copy&paset:
/chat invite SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC PlayerName01;
/chat invite SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC PlayerName02;
...
the 0 in my create macro says the channel is not moderated .. again, if you want to have it moderated turn it to 1 ... but I don't know out of memory what the command is to give people moderation rights ... but just type "/chat" ingame and it will give you all the commands you need to know (ban, info etc)
The message of the Chat is in "" ... the \#3399ff is a blue color ... \#ffffff is white. But create this macro in a text editor as you won't be able to see the text you write after the "\" ... then copy and paste it into SWG ...
To copy and paste go to your options -> Keymap -> all -> and set "chat edit copy" and "chat edit paste" on a key-combination ... just paste it into a macro ... drag that macro onto your main toolbarSet (like shift-F12 or such) and activate it after SWG loaded
Now if you have your macro
I don't know about the original poster, but quite a bit of that was new to me, and wlel presented. Thanks!

Well if the city chat is implemented as guild chat is then I don't want it for my city ...
For one we want a public chat so anybody visiting the city can join without problems. Creating a restricted chat that would be opened on login would bring all citizens into this chat, they would probably not go into a seperate public chat ...
And I don't want to have a chat with a Number as name ... I like being able to promot our website with the chat channel name, giving it color and a message (message of the day possible).
It's not really that hard to make a macro that either creates a channel (even a private channel and adds all citizens) or that joins an excisting channel ... just use "/chat create SWG.Server.Chat.CityChatName 1 0 "City Chat Message";" for a public ... "0 0" for a private chat ... invite with "/chat invite SWG.Server.Chat.CityChatName NameOfPlayer;" and "/chat join SWG.ServerlChat.CityChatName" to join almost automaticly on pressing an F-Key on startup ... you can't really call that tediouse anymore ... it just gives you much more freedom than the guild chat system allows you.
I want it public too, but I was just suggesting it, cause I WANT CITY CHAT. We have 4 PA's in the city, and others not in a PA, and I am tired of creating a channel, and having it destroyed. Tired of having to talk through tells, or rejoin the created city channel. It simply can't be that hard.
