Sorry for having been a phantom around here the past couple of weeks. It wasn't my intention to pull so far back and leave you without word. I did write to Thunderheart a couple of weeks ago to let him know that this would be my last month acting as the politician correspondent due to happy personal developments of a family nature. There will be a little Bajeezus sitting on my knee, trying to grab the mouse, trying to post his own ideas about the GCW, before too long, and I've been pulling out of game-related responsibilities in preparation for this little alteration to my priority list.

I didn't mean to leave you guys without your correspondent for the past couple of weeks though, and for that I apologize. I admit that I haven't had my head in the game for a bit, and I want you guys to have a correspondent that will bring the energy and enthusiasm to this role that you deserve.

I haven't heard how Thunderheart intends to handle the selection of the new correspondent, but I'd be happy to take your recommendations to him, as I would any feedback about politicians. There are many of you who have made fantastic contributions on an ongoing basis to this community, but I don't have a good way of knowing which of you would be interested in acting as the community's correspondent. Feel free to recommend yourself or someone else, and I'll pass those nominations on to Thunderheart.

Getting to be a correspondent is a great chance for anyone who loves game development, and getting to be even a small part of the live development effort for SWG is a unique and fantastic opportunity for which I am very greatful.

Congrats on the new kid!

So, what do we need a correspondant for, anyway? It's not like there's any Player City or Politician Profession bugs, right?

That is immense news....

Congrats, and hopefully you will continue to pop your head in here every now and then.

/rant-on Hopefully we can find someone with the time to do this job correctly... One problem with most politicians/mayors is that they are over-worked, and already very frustrated with the game.

I think it would be great if the devs and a good politician correspondent could get together and set up a series of API's or some such so city data could be mined by out of game programs and populated into the independent DB's a city maintains on their website.... This would allow city's to take matters such as report-generation and other matters into their own hands and ease the devs workloads.

I write software for my city's site as it is, and having to get the treasury info by hand everyday in order to populate my charts is a pain at times (especially if I go out of town).

Primarily, whatI would like to see happen is that they get someone into the position who knows what to ask for, and how to negotiate differentways to get it. There are ways, given the right data, to generate a perfectly accurate city map out of game. For instance,I have some Java code I'm working on now that will take the waypoint of each structures door, the structure type, and which direction it faces andplot an entire city map based upon database values... this is doable.

At any rate, I hope that the dev's consider this, and begin considering new ways to resolve some of the issues surrounding the Politician profession. Currently, it is a profession that requires much outside technical know-how and help in order to be successful at it... If this isn't going to change, then I think we should have a steady, and effective repository of tools at our disposal in order to meet this task.

Good luck Baj, in everything you do... and be sure to keep us up to date. This is to be your most important role ever!
