Thread: Bye bye cancerous structures

To be honest I highly doubt it'll make much of a difference. How many people that you know actually delete a character when they leave the game? Out of the 100 or so I've known, not one has ever deleted, they simply stop paying and playing.

Perhaps this is a precursor to doing the same with inactive accounts.

I think your stuff stays for 6 months after you leave the game.

Wow, I think this is the most topics I've actually made. I've always been more of a responder then a poster but meh.

- When you delete a character, all harvesters and installations that the character owns will be deleted after next server restart.

So some of the "inactive" homes and other such structures will likely be deleted. This is great for those of us who have homes that just won't die even though the character has, and long ago to boot. Also means that lot swapping is a lot more dangerous so there is less insentive to do it for towns, or anything for that matter, so basically today is a good day.

It is worth pointing out however that structures belonging to players who have simply quit the game or deactivated their accounts will not necessarydisappear like this... then it will still take the 3 months, or whatever, they wait to delete a character after an account has ceased being active for non-payment.

True, but still it is a quantum leap in the right direction in my opinion and will likely have some great effects. Especially right off the bat.

If you just quit, you stuff stay as long as there is maint to support it. If someone dumps 5,000,000 credits into a small house just befor quiting the game, it will still be there in 17 years. If someone else has admin to a structure who's owner has quit playing (but not delelted), they can keep the structure around for ever by paying the maint.

That's NOT true. After your account expires, the structure will remain for as long as the maintenance holds out up to a maximum of six months! Six months after an accout expires, the database for that character is deleted. All structures, credits, and everything else the player owns, will be wiped at that time regardless of the amount of maintenance remaining.

Just an update on this.

An old friend of mine who had to stop playing 9 months ago because of issues beyond his control just returned three days ago. His character was still intact and his items were still in his possession. However, regarding structures, he had not nearly enough money to keep them up, nor enough warning to allow others to do so for him, so we cannot know for certain that his structures would have still been intact, or not. But this is confirmation that characters will stay present and playable for at least nine months, and possibly indefinitely.

Quite an emphatic statement for someone that is WRONG. You know NOT of what you speak.

That may be the intent. That may be what someone, somewhere has said should happen. But it is not reality.

I know of a factory, for example, that is sitting on the lots of someone whose account went inactivein late August/early September {quickly counting on my fingers} - that's 7 months, going on 8 now.

This is a step in the right direction. Should account for maybe 20% of the cancerous structures. The rest I am afraid are characters that are just inactive.

Still a good step. This will get rid of all those exploited server farms.

They haven't 'purged' any inactive accounts to my knowledge.

In AC it took them like 3 years before they did a 'purge', then theyposted and warned for over a month before they did it.
