I didn't know where to post this, so I figured here would be a decent place.
Many people have created their own "museums" now in SWG, and they look awsome in player cities. Even I have a museum (two actually) which I'm quite proud of.
However, not many structures have a "museum-ish" look to them, nor the correct layout. Naboo, Generic, Corellia, Tatooine... none look quite right for a museum. Perhaps the best looking structures for a museum is a Tatooine PA hall or maybe a medium Tatooine house-- but even those don't have quite the right look to them. And them item limit is always an issue when creating a beautiful museum that attracts the eye, but also has a decent amount of interesting and rare displays.
So this got me thinking. Why not having a new player city structure called "Museums"? They could have about the same size requirement as a PC cantina, but taller... maybe two or three floors. Each floor has a few seperate rooms for displays, and some of the rooms have built-in diplay case-looking tables. These built-in display cases could have small built-in lights that light up the items in or on the cases, but the lights aren't too bright... simply bright enough to light up a single case.
The entrance is a room all by itself off to the side, like the entrance of the medium Naboo house. There someone could place a vendor acting as the "museum Curator" if they wanted. Then you go through a door to the side, much like the medium Naboo, and you enter into the main room. It's a large room with a tiled floor that has some kind of a design on it. Up above on the ceiling there is a large round dome window that lets in a little bit of light. The dome could either be stained glass and have a star system painted on it, or it could simply be a darker color to match the darker walls of the museum.
Along the walls on each side of the first floor there are afew foors, maybe three doors on the left and right walls, one or twoat the back/front wall. These doors lead into seperate small rooms where people could have seperate displays-- and some of these rooms have the built-in lighted display cases.
Along one of the walls in the main room is a staircase, or even an elevator the Devs felt they wanted to get really fancy.
These stairs lead up to the next floor. The second floor over looks the first floor below, much like the balcany walk of the medium Naboo house. Again, along the walls there are doors, perhaps aligned with the doors below on the first floor, and those doors lead into more seperate rooms, just above the rooms below on the first floor. Again, some of these rooms have built-in lighted display cases.
There could be a few lights on the walls that provide dim lighting in some places, like the lights you see in Naboo style houses. But maybe just in the large main room.
The walls of the museum could be a dark green like the city halls have because the green walls really look good when displaying items. The floor in the large main gallery on the first floor is a tiled floor with some kind of design on it. The other floors in the other smaller rooms are tiled as well, but don't have the designs.
The building could perhaps be the usual rectangular building like all the others. Or, if the Devs felt like they wanted to do something different, the building could be more oval or even round, thus even decreasing the land size it would take.
Three building styles, of course-- Tatooine, Naboo and Corellia. Though, like currently, the interiors would look the same no matter what style it is. Though each style would have a smallset of stairs, maybe five or six steps, leading up to the entrance. On each side of the stairs there would be a large decorative statue... the statue would change depending on the style of the museum (Naboo, Tatooine or Corellia). There would be a 500 (or even 500+) item limit because meseums naturally need a lot of itemstorage space for exhibits, displayers, attractions and decorations... and the all-important lighting too! I have a large and a medium Naboo house for my museum, and with 350 item space, it still isn't enough for all the exhibits I'd like to put up.
The structure could be placed when the city reaches rank II, and the museum would be declared on the planetary map if the city is, just like PC hospitals, theaters and cantinas. It would be shown under a "museum" category on the planetary map, like you see on Tatooine.
Of course there would have to be a requirement for placing the museum, besides the city rank requirement. But seeing as it would serve no other purpose then being something really neat and creative to look it-- unlike cantinas where you can get mind wounds healed--, the requirement wouldn't need to be so high. It could be a badge requirement. You'd have to have all the exploration badges to be able to place the museum!
Museums always look awsome in a player city, and having actual museum buildings that could be placed in player cities would be even better! There's something cool about museums, and it's always fun to go in one and see the rare items and neat displays people have put up.
But there you have it. My little museum idea. I've even made some sketches of the building because I've been bored.
We'll probably never get actual museums we can place, but I can still dream can't I?

As a former museum curator myself i have a deep respect for museums and the people who labor to fill them with the games more intersting items. My city has a museum, curator Dusti. I never thought of your idea and im glad you brought it up. You have an advocate herewith me.

as far as building layouts and holding capacity, for my town, i use a Large Tatooine House. That large first room is great for the main exhibit hall, where I currently have EVERY painting on Lowca on display (other than the advertisement, which is horribly ugly, and the twilek one, which i am still trying to get my grubby little hands on). I also have several pieces of art, as well as rare artifacts, and ALL of the loot kit items (not all, but I am purchasing the orange rug adhesive VERY soon). the overlooking balcony in the main room is a great spot to hang paintings, i have all of the anniversary paintings up there.
in the large Tat houses, there is a room on the second floor that has a one way window looking into the main exhibit hall, that room i have turned into the Museum Curator's Office.
I also have a room (not complete yet) for weaponry and armor.
Another room is for clothing (mostly rare looted clothing)
One is for Animal Deeds.
I hope to eventually have one room be an ever changing monthly exhibit, similar to what Babelon has on Naboo in Lowca.

A museum structure would be cool. I use 2 Guild Halls for my collection on corbantis in Polygon Valley.

I love the idea.. I'm a part time decorator and it is VERY hard to decorate with item limit

I built a museum inside our city hall (in the room to the right). It would be nice to be able to spread out some and it's something we'd definitely feel was worth paying maintenance on. We're currently building a "zoo" inside a guild hall. That's another city structure I wish were available.
