Thread: All right, it's over.

I'll recap here some musings from other threads as to why caps just broke the entire player citysystem, and how the game will likely not recover from it. I guess the Devs won't believe this to be true, but they didn't believe we could build city halls in 5 mn either.

1) Headstart

People plopped down their halls asap to reserve a slot. In a few days, before the elections, these groups will destriy their halls and immediately place another at their "real spot". When the cap is lifted, these player cities already have a shuttleport, making walking to other cities a pain. They'll have drawn all the crafters and commerce, Newborn cities won't have a chance to develop, the "city market" will already be taken.

2) Planet disparities.

When unable to create a city on a starter planet, people will go to "advanced" planets. Those that cost more in ticket fees and take more time to go. End result, commerce will be stuck in the starter cities anyway.

3) Heavy powergamer bias.

SoE clearly demonstrated the aforementioned advantage had to go to people who could login at any hour of the day or night. Add this to the powergaming needed to achoeve the Jedi slot, SoE failed on its promises of a casual friendly game.

You don't believe in this analysis? You didn't in my other ones either, and yet they were proven true.

This entire cap thing has no point. The player cities are meant for everyone to use. The devs expect everyone to join a city somewhere. If there are only a few scattered out per planet, everyone will be lost.

Caps were put in becuase the Database can't handle any more than that...so says TH...

when they fix the databases, more cities will come in...
so in like 5 years...

sucks to get shafted..again

I empathize with the people wishing to be Politicians who hit the cap, I hope things work out for you.

Regarding item 1 however... city halls cannot be safely moved... they're like detachment hqs... so even if that occurred... those people are stuck with the location they reserved...

Pre patch Naboo houses can't be put elsewhere either, so we're stuck. We're effectively forbidden to create a city, even if we go to Dantooine or Rori. And no, buying 80 houses again isn't an option.

Not even. They make another city hall, then, get prepared to destroy the first to place the second. Number of cities will be 9 for a few seconds, for them the time to put down the second hall. It is very unlikely anybody would try to put a hall down at the very same time since people gave up on starter planets anyway.

35K I can earn in an hour...And not from missions. Money isn't an issue there.

Here is a interesting thought to taking out the cap. or at least sort of... find3 planets or so in the galaxy currently and make them player city only planets (except for maybe one outpost so people can get there in the first place). I mean I have a map of the known galaxy... plus the DEV should* have a copy of the Essential guide to Planets and Moons.

* = should... meaning "they better"

Does it really take more time to go to an adventure planet?

As a merchant who has focused exclusively on Outer Rim worlds like Dantooine and Lok for the last 3 months, I highly disagree with your statement: there is a massive mint to be made on these worlds. For example, on Lowca, I am the only merchant with planetary advertising on either Dantooine or Lok. The Bazaars are frequently empty because so few crafters live there, creating an inflated market where it is possible to buy from the Bazaar in Corellia and sell in the Bazaar on Dantooine at an immediate 40% markup.

Dantooine is a good example, actually -- between Holo-fever fueling the Mining Outpost, Imperial faction grinding fueling the Imperial Outpost, and the Warren fueling the Aggro Outpost, Dantooine is a bustling place, full of people spending money and making money.

But there are very few houses. And fewer still crafters. And fewer still merchants and venders.

Commerce is only stuck on the starter planets because the suppliers are too lazy to bring the products to where the demand is.

This is a bug (apparently) and Plinka has some devs looking into it atm...

I think this patch went relatively well, with some lag in some areas, but mostly it felt like the server just behaved like it does on a normal day (there has always been lag hehe). Hopefully this means that they city cap can be lifted ASAP

But in essence I agree with you, this cap is artificial and it caters powergamers (especially unemployed or those that skips work/school. Actually as the post took so long time, most europeans had been home for quite some time when servers came online).

I've got to tell you, I was very disappointed last night.

Imagine this: We have found this ideal location for our city. We love it...we've been counting on it. We're not looking to be huge or anything, just there. We're building it up slowly but surely in preparation.

I come home from work, excited about this. Send a frantic message over guildchat, and the money pours in from all directions, because though each person is poor, we can team up very well. It's a good guild. Great people.

So now I have the money for the city hall. Next step? Oh, yes. Politician. I go and get it. 500 apprenticeship points down the drain JUST so we can have our city. I am only glad I held off on sacrificing my Smuggler points or I'd have been FURIOUS.

Well, more than I am.

Next, I zip over to Kadaara, and I wait for the architect, who I had contacted first, to finish building our hall. You know, it's nice, because he made it for me right away...but it still took him four hours to finish. So I get it in my hands, and DASH back to our area, and first thing, before inducting the new member to the guild, I place it.

NOT.

Why not? Because the player limit for cities is already filled! ALREADY filled! Did I know it was going to be filled? No. Did I know I was going to waste 500K, 500 Apprenticeship points and 4 and a half hours for nothing? No.

And yes, I'm a little upset that the cap was there, because it's true. When the caps are lifted...will they be raised or lifted entirely? When it comes up, am I going to be at work again, and come home to find they're gone AGAIN?

And by that time, will surrounding cities have made it impossible for us to build where we are? I understand database issues, but they COULD have given us some warning...or lifted the cap a tiny bit at a time throughout the day so that people who logged on LATER could stand a chance.

Anyhow, that's my vent.
