When announcements of mayor/politician came out, one pointseemed to be stressed by developer's. Thiswas that towns are not owned by one person. In fact they are! The mayor owns the town. It's existance depends entirely on the mayor. If a mayor cancels account then town is gone. If mayor destroys city hall town is gone. If a mayor surrenders skills town is gone. Why is this the case? Then you make it nearly impossible to change mayors. Mayors are both dictators and slaves to their towns. On top of that developers do not seem to comment on our problems the way they do other professions. There are so few of us I guess we are not a priority. You stress the community nature of player towns yet they are under the total control and the burden of one person.

Honest, the mayor is a 'manager'.

Granted, as mayor you have the sole responsibility for the 'big' stuff. However, a smart mayor will create a militia made up of intelligent members of the city that follow the same guilelines as what the 'city' agrees on.

I found that by acting as a manger, I can help focus my militia's attention to the needs of the city, allowing me to still be a player but also a mayor.

If Mayor is a burden for you, then you're not the one for the job, basically.

Management is not a right, but a skill. If you got in over your head, I can't help you, but I can offer you a place to settle your new home...heh.

The fact is the Politician profession is considered a burden because it does not offer you any practical skills besides decorating a city and dealing with peoples concerns within the city. I myself enjoy the profession but I can see why so many would see it as "boring". Did you ever realize this is the only profession with no practical means of making a living? Every other profession either gives you combat skills to hunt or run missions or gives you missions from a term for a credit reward or gives you the means of crafting items that you can sell. Merchant is probably another such profession but it atleast makes selling your crafted items much more efficient. I do realize your not expected to just have politician and no other profession but still you cannot deny there is some lack of skills granted to the politician that are afforded to the others. They need to either grant us better skills or reduce the number of skill points necessary to fill each box so that we can commit them other professions.

So you've pointed out some issues...

Now be constructive and offer your solutions?

What do you want?

dog,

Did you read the post? Some of you missed the point. This is not about my like or dislike of profession. It is about a town can bestroyed by one person no matter how may people helped to build it. I am not trying to be rude but comment on the post. There are other post about whether or not you like/ dislike or want out of the profession. The developers stress the community nature of town yet the are owned by the mayor. I had hoped this discussion would help developers realize they need to rework how town work. Please stay on topic or the develpoers will not get the point.

Ecco

You have yet to offer one idea on how you would make the city NOT be controlled by one person, the mayor.

You want a discussion but you have not offered anything except to say that the current way is dumb.

Which I personally agree with,

Now, how would you fix it?

( I have a lot of suggestions, I am just waiting for you to come up with some)

Very simple. If a town loses a mayor for any reason. The citizensget a notice and have one week (or a determined amount of time) to get a newmayor before their town hall disappears. Also once a city Hall is place no one can destroy it not even mayor unless town falls below outpost population which is 10.

To help mayors who want to resign. Same as above the town gets notice and has a week to get a new mayor. Town should be based on population not only for their enlargement but also for there existance.

These changes would allow towns to be more open. There would be less fear in turning over towns and give more people a chance to be a mayor. People would not worry about lossing their towns. These changes would be easy to code.

And that can't be done through a vote currently because most citizens are awol or afk and don't vote so the absentee votes roll to the existing mayor? Right?

That sucks.

it took us 5 weeks of hounding citizens to get a new mayor elected. and that was a peaceful transfer of power. such transfers should be made easier so that people that would like the oportunity to be mayor can. If the developers had annouced this kind of feature early on, (and a use for multiple poli's in a city) then there would be more people involved in player cities instead of spread out to every planet. As it stand now getting a metropolis transferred is a real pain, and there are to many cities (given what little the average one has)

I totally agree with this post, something needs to be done. Our guild went through this very same thing. Our Mayor destroyed the city hall during an election that was removing him from office. We were a level 5 city with over 90 citizens who instantly lost months of hard work and planning to make the city what it was. To me, this is an outrage, one person should not have so much ability to instantly grief that many active players! No Mayor should be allowed to destroy the city hall of a level 5 period. If the citizen's themselves decide that the city should cease to exits, then they should all move out, and when the city is down to the minimum level the city hall can vanish by itself, as itdoes nowif there are not 10 citizens within the city limits.

Just a thought..
