Thread: Disussion: What makes a good Officer?
- Veteran -- has been with us for a long time
- A Leader -- Someone who rises above your regular guildmate, who takes charge of issues or puts forth issues on the table
- Intelligence -- Some gamers simply have more intelligence on matters...wisdom, how the game is fleshed; not in the sense if you're dumb or smart....but in the sense of how well you handle the game. Are you someone that puts forth logical ways to use the game mechanics? Do you give advice to guildmates? etc
- Ability to function -- Can you take up the responsibilites of recruitment and helping to lead the guild?
Maybe I play too many games, but I can tell someone's personality to an extent by how they type, the diction they use, and their style. Those who I entrust with guild responsibility are all of these in their online and perhaps real personalities; they are mature gamers who can get the job done, and help create a positive atmosphere for a community that wants to have fun.

Knowledge of the Guild itself. It's rules, it's laws, it's goals, and direction. -
Willingness to lead. The ability to take charge if needed in your absense. -
Willingness to help others. Generosity goes a long way when it comes to Officers and Leaders. People will not want to follow a person who doesn't care for anyone but themselves. This goes a long way into some of the other important factors. -
Loyalty. This is probably one of the most important ones. This goes as far as time spent in the guild, knowing that you can fully trust an individual in that role, and knowing that they have never done anything to give the guild or themselves a bad reputation.
Overall, others will vary by the person choosing and by each guild and it's set up. Personally, I look at the above factors when I choose my other leaders. It's important for me to know they want to help the guild grow more than just want the seat of power. I make sure my guild is more like a family than a guild. We're small, usually average around 40 people. We all know each other and talk to each other in and out of game. We always help each other out when we need it. When it's time for me to choose a new Council member in my guild it's always a difficult choice as I know each and every one of them could handle the role.
l Always make your decisions based on the greater good for the greater number.
l Your word is your bond. Never turn your back on a promise once rendered.
l Treat those worthy of respect with respect.
l Give your help to those that help others the most.
l Do not support destructive individuals or allegiances but seek to minimize their power or overcome them.
lNever do alone what could benefit both yourself and others in a group.
l Recognize that knowledge is the valuable gift in the universe and openly share the knowledge you possess with your fellows.
l An enemy of your friend is your enemy too.
l Do your part to protect the rights and freedoms of your fellows.
l If you perceive a problem in your allegiance, seek not to leave or undermine but work to correct the problem in such a way that it will increase the strength of your group..
l Recognize that by virtue of you being a member of an allegiance, you are stronger. Increase the strength of your allegiance and you increase your own power.
l Contribute to your allegiance in whichever way your abilities are best suited.
l Make your choices wisely, because once you have made the choice its hard to undo. If your always wanting to undo something you have done then you will rarely make the right decision for the alliance.
