The way I got people in to my guild is:
1.) Talk to people at busy starports. Mos Eisley is a good area to go, since there are many new people without a guild.
2.) Advertise in your shop. Promotional customized items, guild uniform displays anything.
3.) Make friends. The #1 way people joined the guild through me, is when I helped them out with a mission, or gave them some free items or something and really got to know them. They happily joined the guild ater inquiring what it was about.
That's the advice I have for you. I hope you are able to get some people in your guild!

You can also post a message on the PA forum for your server.

Thanks for the advice, i found getting to know the new players in mos eisley is a good way of recruitment, you make friends and get guild members, i now have a future weaponsmith and someone who maybe a good pvp organizer when they learn about the game more

I will need to try this too! I have had a guild going for 4 months and we are down to 30 members (very few active) so I'm always on the look out for ideas on how to get more. Thanks.

One of the most effective ways to recruit is to have members who don't spend a lot of time in the field IE in player/NPC cities talk to people. Nice people who are talkative always will get people asking about the guild they are in.

If you have your members talk to players you might want to give them a little charter or blurb about what to say when they get questions about your guild. I was asked if I wanted to join a guild and when I asked the person what they did he said "hunt krayts". It did give me a laugh but I was expecting a bit more. It was definitely better than the spam bots in star ports. I almost always put them on my ignore list.

Word of mouth is the best way to get in new members, but you need to be clear on what type of people you want in your PA.
Starport recruiting very rarely works, as all you will guarantee is quantity of members instead of quality.
Definitely post in the stickyied PA thread on your forums, and keep an eye out for people who post on the forums that they're looking for a PA.
If your guild is doing well, then theres a good chance people will start to come to you asking for membership rather than the other way round. Members of your own PA will often mention the guild to any ingame friends they have and thats a good way to get the type of members you want as well.
Always think about what type of guild you want to be and what type of people you want to have in it. I personally think its good for every guild to go through a stage where their numbers aren't huge but they have a good core group of members. Once you know what you've already got and what you want to be, then you can really begin to expand membership numbers in a constructive way.

Before you start to recruit for your new guild you have to answer some questions about your guild.
1. Is your guild factional?
if yes what faction?
2. What is the purpose of your guild?
Crafting
Bounty Hunters
PvP
PvE
Grouping
Entertainer
Mofia
Military
Roll Player
Self Sufficient
ect
3. What kind of people do you want in your guild?
Friends
Anyone
Over 18
Under 18
Profession Specific
Mature
ect
4. Who will decide who joins?
Members
Officers
anyone who applies
friends of members only
5. What process will determine if they join?
guild themepark
interview
sponsorship
6. Will there be a probationary period?
How long
try before you buy?
guild review
once your in your in?
Once you have answered these questions you can write a guild charter stating the rules of your guild, Make it clear what kind of guild you want and who can join. and dont starport spam, post on your server's PA listing as well as advertise using your ingame bio. Amazingly people do read those. Once your guild is established let its actions speak for it, and dont go bragging about it. The guilds I respect the most are the ones that the players actions and the rest of the server promote the guild and the leaders dont say Oh check out my guild its great
Good luck with your guild

Ummmmm numbers alone wont help you ... you need people who belive in what your guild stands for and get along with your members ... or your guild wont last. Try getting to know people and invite them to guild events ... they will join if they like teh members and you will get nice guidlies
