Thread: Group XP Idea

Right now... Group XP is based off the damamge that you do to a creature, If your not a highly skill Advanced porfession you can't do enough damage for the Xp to be worth the time. This is espically true on guild hunts and things of that nature. I was thinking.. What about makeing the Xp you gain off of a Creature based off the Number of skill points you have used (rounded up to the nearest 25th)??

For example, Lets say that my group is out fighting Kimos.. and for this example they grant a total 5000 xp The group is..

  • Teras Kasi Master/Master Doctor with 227 points used. (250 for xp)

  • Rifleman with used 50 points. (50 for xp)

  • Master Marksman with used 72 points. (75 for Xp)

So tatal possible Xp is 5000 / 250 = 20 points of Xp per Skill point used..

For Killing a 5k Kimo each person would get the following XP.

  • The TKM gets 20x250 = 5000 xp

  • The Rifelman/Medic gets20x50 = 1000 Xp

  • The master Marksman gets 20x75 = 1500 Xp

This would only apply to groups of 3 people or more fighting Creatuers that are even to the group or higher. To prevent "power leveling", if anyone person dose more then 50% of the total damamge to the creatures they are the only ones to get XP, and all persons must do an ammout of Dmg = to the xp they would gain from the creature.

This is just a basic Idea and I know it might have flaws.. So feel free to point them out WITH some fixes.

This is very similiar to an idea I've proposed before as far as group experience goes. Currently, the system is very much focused on soloing over grouping and it's certainly something that needs to change, especially since after the CU we'll be more focused on groups over solo players.

I think the team is starting to move in that general direction though both with the recent group looting changes and the Combat upgrade coming up. Hopefully we'll see some changes into the way both loot and experience works. Back during beta for SWG, the way group experience worked was everyone got an equal share but it allowed for far too quick of leveling so they went with the current system. Over time though, I think it is time for this to be revisted and a better solution found. This would also seriously help alleviate the feel of the 'grind.'

We'll see how everyone else likes the idea and then after a bit I'll compile all the comments and add them into a proposal for the Devs.

I like this idea and agree that the system does need to change before CU comes out.

This is a great idea. Because frankly.. I AM; that Marksman with oh say, 72 points used; and working on Pistoleer as well...

...and I DO; have a friend whom is a Master TKA/Master Doctor, whom I enjoy hunting with.

But I can't be grouped with her.

I can't group with her because while I am standing off, 20 - 60 meters away doing 200 - 300 points of damage per shot from a Pistol or Carbine... or maybe 500 - 1200 with a rifle, with only about 25% of my shots actually hitting the target and the rest missing completely and most shooting off at 90 degree angles from where I am actually trying to aim at...

But my friend is going TKA on the damned monster, she has it dead before my guns recylce for the next round of shots, and I get no Exp... ok so that might be slightly exagerrated, but are there any other Marksman out there whom feel the same about their chosen profession? How is the accuracy rate of our shots and is it considered balanced with someone such as a Master TKA?

So then; what is the point in friends grouping and hunting together with the system like this?

I came to this game; because I have friends who play it, and I wanted to be able to play with them... and not stand around like a moronic idiot watching them kill everything for me on my Missions, and take all the Exp.

One of the things they told me before I came to SWG, is that it doesn't matter what Level you are, because there are no Levels. We had come from Everquest where there are Levels. My friends told me that there are no Levels in SWG; and it doesn't matter how good you are, you can group with your friends and still get Exp, no matter how often they play and grind more then you do...

But I have since found that this is not true.

It truely makes me wonder, why bother with things like Marksman or Pistoleer... when obviously being a TKA makes one a god in this game and grants the ability to pretty much kill whatever... and leaves nothing for the little guy to get any exp from.

I think Qilue's idea is excellent and I am somewhat confused as to why the system wasn't like that in the first place.

Oh; and before someone comes and complains or eh.. suggests.. that the TKA friend shouldn't do so much damage, they should hold back and chill... not use all their fighing skills that puts out so much damage...

Well then what is the point in being a TKA; and grouping with your Marksman, Pistoleer, Rifleman friends... if you're not going to use the TKA fighing skills which you worked so hard to use?

May as well just surrender all those TKA skills back down and stick with Unarmed IV in Brawler. *sarcasm*
