Greetings everyone!

One of the most long standing issues involving Guilds and Leadership has finally be resolved. The former Allegiance method of changing guild leaders has been replaced by a much more user friendly election process very similar to the way Cities vote for a Mayor. Below, I’ll explain the ins and outs of the system to help everyone understand the process.

When Guilds are created, the person who creates the guild is placed as the leader. This person will continue to serve as the leader for the lifetime of the guild unless he or she decides to step down or they stop playing the game for 30 consecutive days. (They don’t log in their character for that period of time.)

If the leader decides to step down they have two options of how to handle the transfer of power to another guild member. If they wish to hand pick the person who will succeed them, they may “Transfer” the leadership position over to the new person. The other option is to begin a guild election so the guild may vote for the new leader.

Transferring Leadership:

To transfer leadership, the leader and the successor both need to be at the Guild Management Terminal in the guild hall. The leader will need to bring up the radial menu and choose Member Management > Transfer PA Leadership. They must then type in the new leader’s full name, first and last, and it is case sensitive. Make sure you type it *exactly* like it is in game. It will then make sure they can take over leadership (Which currently will check to make sure you have 5 free lots available to hold the Guild Hall should you choose to) and if you pass the check, the new leader will take over and the guild will receive an email explaining the leadership change.

BUG: Currently, you must have 5 lots free to have leadership transferred to you. I believe this to be a bug currently as the Leader does not need to own the Guild Hall.

Guild Elections:

The Leader has the option to force open a guild election if they wish to leave the guild or step down as leader. To do this, they can goto the Guild Management Terminal and choose Guild Management and it will bring up an option “Enable Guild Elections” and the process will begin.

It should also be noted that if the leader fails to log in for 30 days the Guild will automatically begin the leadership election process to make sure that the guild always has an active leader. If the leader logs in during the forced election process, the elections will automatically cancel and they will retain their position.

Elections function in the following way. All Guild Members will be sent an email advising them the election process has begun (And will tell them whether the leader turned it on or the system forced it due to inactivity.) The Elections will last exactly 2 weeks. Each member can then go to the Guild Hall and use the Guild Management Terminal to vote for a new leader. Guild Members will see a Fourth Radial Menu option called “Guild Election.”

The Election menu will have three different options available. They are: Register/Unregister to run, View Standings, and Vote. All Guild members can vote or register to run for leader. Only active votes are counted, so if three people vote and two people vote for one person the person with two votes will win.

BUG: Currently, if the election is tied, the former leader will retain their position without having been registered for the election.

BUG: Currently, if the leader just quits the guild before or during an election, the voting process will stop and the guild will not be able to function. The Guild Terminal becomes unusable. Guild Chat will still function however.

Frequently Asked Question:

Q: Is there a way to force an election if the guild decides they want a new leader but the current leader is active?

A: No, unfortunately with the new system the only way to change leaders is through direct transfer of the election process. If the leader is active, they can’t be removed by the guild unless they decide to step down on their own.

I will ask the Dev team for some type of option for a majority of the guild to vote to turn on the election without the leader initiating it.
