Thread: Has anyone else noticed a disterbing trend in their Guilds?

Sence the CU and manditory grouping we have had a problem with tempers flaring and people summaraly leaving the guild. The crux of the problem seems to be this; We simply don't seen to like each other as much as we thought we did. While the core of the Guild is still strong I find my self coming to terms with the expretion "Stuck in a fox hole".

I now feel that because XP is dependent on the numbers and strength of the group every ass hat in the guild that I couldn't stand before the CU is hell bent on constantly grouping with me, and when any one of us say no it is a personal afront to their dignity and take the first shuttle out of town.

Further more everything seems to be about Jedi grinding now, my friend who is a master Ranger and conducts a very lucritive buisness hunting and harvisting high quality resorces is practicly foaming at the mouth from her inability to find a stable group of hunters that arn't going to lose interest in 20 min or get her killed because they simply lack the sence god gave a golf ball.

What is my point? I think in the comming days that we are doing to have to clean house in my guild or it is going to self destruct, but the peole that dont make the cut are presicly the type that are going to go running to other guilds spilling our secrets, looting our houses befor we can get them off admin and generaly be children about it.

Are there any Guilds out there that willingly exept and embrace the pre-school mantality as fun and enjoyable, if you do and this is not an isolated incedent, I think you can expect an influx of new members.

I'm not going to lie, it seems like you have a terrible guild. If a guild is not a group of friends, it's not a guild. It has absolutely nothing to do with the game structure.

I would sadly, tend to agree. However, I have heard of very strong guilds having this same problem. I think ours continues to work well and grow, because we have a very strict policy on adding people. We also have a lot of rules, which cuts down on the fighting. We're also a neutral guild/city, even if people are a part of faction. Plus, we don't have a lot of jedi. Even with jedi folks grinding, we still always have people up to help others, simply because that's our number one rule. Help out your mates and they'll help you back.

But other guilds I know...they're just interested in grouping with the highest level people for grinding. For big fat loot. Not any reasons for *wanting* to group. It's been hard on many crafters, who used to depend on having fighters to watch over them on the harvest runs and such.

So many guilds are just disappearing, now that there is so much focus on the group grind. If that makes sense.

I am proud of my guild, in that they remain genuinely helpful and friendly people. But even the best of them are getting bored and despondend about not being able to find a group in the times they are on. When the CU hit, about 70% of them stopped playing. What is left is not enough to keep guild groups going. And we do not want to go mass recruiting under the new players, because that will most likely undermine everything we stand for.

The problems as I perceive them:

1)people have different interests in game.

Some want to go looting, others want to go flying, yet others want to grind a profession or get vilage xp. There are people who want to hunt on specific planets, because the hide/bone/meat over there is good. And then there are the jedi, who NEED to level fast, so they can get out the BH-bait price range. A lot of these interests do not combine well.

2) people play at different times.

We have people from all over the world. This never used to be a problem, because if there was no one to group with, you simply went off solo and did your own thing.

Now, we have to reconcile time zones, job shifts and time available to get anything done. And it gets bad. We used to be able to do things spontaneously. Now we have to plan ahead to make sure all the required professions are on line at the correct time. A lot of people simply say 'f*ck this' and leave. Some people came back from other games to have a look, and leave within days.

3) there are truly STAGGERING differences in the competency level and attitudes of groups

Because we are too few at any given time, we have to group with strangers. Often, the experience is NOT a pleasant one.

- Some people only group to get whatever quest items they want, then drop group and let you hang before the mission can be repeated (everyone wants the reward, after all). Quarrels over loot are frequent and unsavory.

- Levelled people who are not vilage grinders are getting totally fed up with the need to shepherd noobs in grinding groups.

- A lot of people are NOT willing to listen to group instructions, no matter who is giving them, and simply do whatever they want. Things like agroing every creature and every lair, attacking creatures and NPCs at random without ever heeding a plan of action, refusing to play the role your professions dictate (no, if you are doc/cm with some brawler, you CANNOT go attacking the lair).

I frankly don't know if these problemscan ever be overcome. 1 and 2 will remain true even if the entire game is redone once again. As for 3, this is a science fiction game, not a fantasy game with a 40 yearhistory of predefined roles. People DO NOT WANT to play roles. They want to play STAR WARS. People hate the forced grouping. And I see less and less of my old guard on line with each week that passes. And even the new people are starting to get fed up.

I have noticed that since hte CU, my guild has functioned as....get this.....a guild!

Thats right, we actually see a need to give each other a hand now.

I think that after the CU, we lost alot of our longtime members. I can think of three really (including myself) who had been in the guild for a long time and are still here after the CU. Despite losing all of these people, the number of guild members has remained constant from all of the people we have coming back to the game. We've had 5-10 old old members who quit come back to us since the CU.

And our guild has come out stronger than ever, because not only do we have to group together and do more things together, but all of the whiners and people who cause drama have dropped away. We now have a strong core of guildies who are getting to know each other even better.

I think that you should aim for more quality recruitment than quantity.

although i agree with alot of you on how grouping is effecting things, my guild is beginning to come around. yes its hard to always have a guildmate online to help out. but, just because you are in a guild, doesnt mean you cant go out with other ppl/friends to do things. we just had a very successful weekend of guild activities. we grouped up and killed necrosis like 8 our of 12 times. killed a gorax. killed an acklay. and did a little xp grinding in between. everyone had a blast, everyone got something for their helping and joining in (loots and xp). many times you go out with say one guildmate and you have to find a few strangers to help you do things. this weekend we were turning down strangers and non-guild friends because it was strictly a guild weekend. 90% of all the CU whiners have left the guild. of course we all have our problems with new things these days (bugs, etc.), but some ppl just harp on it all day long. yes, we are fewer in number, but we are stronger in family and positive atmosphere. dont give up hope!!! if your core guildmates are strong, able, and willing, then your guild will survive the onslaught of game bugs and whiners.

Our PA became stronger since the CU, then again we're all friends.

Some of us in the guild went up to Endor this weekend to kill a Gorax.....get this.....for fun. Can you beleive it?!?!?!

I'm with you Ford, I'm enjoying the game alot more now that the guildies are spending more time together. No more soloing Picketts for 8 hrs at a time.

On the same token though, it is tough to get folks to kill stuff for hours on end when they aren't getting any XP. On Bria right now, Naboo Herb meat is crazy good. Like 990 OQ. It was tough to get a group together to hunt them, becasue they were all lvl 36-37 missons. CL 80s don't want that, even if the guild crafters NEED the meat.

There is always gonna be problems with people seeing the big picture, and always doing whats best for the guild, BUT, it is fun spending time with friends again, and not just BS'ing with them in guilchat.

I think the problem here is people wanting to grind.

The way I like to play the game is to do missions and game content to gain the early boxes of a profession. As I get close to mastering the profession, i might get a little excited and grind the last few boxes.

People should let themselves evolve with the game.

Umm... I pull level 78-83 missions off the terms all the time; from Moenia. Herbivore meat drops from Bolle Bols, just have everyone grab bolle missions (I like 81-82 lvl with a full group myself, wicked xp and meat harvests)

If you are running from a player city, have your mayor pick up the mission terminals and re-place them. There seems to be a bug with terms that were pre-cu and I've been told removing and replacing them helps.
