Thread: how to get around broken Guildchat step by step.

I have used this workaround before. It does not survive daily server restart. It may not survive the relogging of the person who creates it. At best it is a temporary group chat.

In every MMO I have played, guild/group chat is a fundamental communication tool. Ppl play MMOs because of their connection with other ppl who play. Having guild chat broken across multiple major patches shows that SOE does not understand this basic truth.

I cannot recall a single night that Group Chat has not broken, requiring the disbanding and reforming of the group, if you are lucky.

Construction suggestion: To keep ppl playing, provide working communication tools such as Guild Chat and Group Chat.

Not sure if this is relevant, but whenever I can't access guildchat, but the other members of my guild can, I right click on the guildchat tab, then click join chat, then navigate to the channel that's listed under guild and hit the Join button. That has always worked for me and my guild without having to create a new chat channel.

Guildchat works by inviting you to a private channel when you log in. If you're logged in when the chat server crashes and reboots, you won't be reinvited to guildchat unless you log out for 5-10 minutes and reconnect.

Hi all!

Another method of rejoining GuildChat when you can't see it but everyone ELSE is typing in it a-ok is to rejoin the GuildChat through the "Join Chat Channel" method, like so:

1. Right click on whatever tab you have GuildChat in, generally GuildChat and Spatial.
2. Select Join Chat Channel
3. Expand your Galaxy listing if it's not expanded already.
4. Scroll down to the listing for "Guild" -- expand this twice, and you should see your GuildChat channel.

This is where you get to make a shortcut, however -- one that lasts through server reboots, logouts, etc.

Once you've expanded the chat channels sufficiently to see your actually GuildChat channel name, you can use the following command to re-join the channel anytime it becomes broken to you:

/chat join guild.####.GuildChat

And yes, it is case-sensitive, so ".GuildChat" must be capitalized like that. And be sure to replace #### with the number of your actual Guild chat room! Mine for example looks like so:

guild.43004.GuildChat

Now, if you don't want to type that mess out every time you want to try rejoining GuildChat, simply make an alias!

/alias cj /chat join guild.####.GuildChat

This alias will not be lost when the server reboots or when you logout. The example above will make it so that you only have to type /cj every time you want to rejoin GuildChat.

Take note: This shortcut will ONLY work when you are simply not invited or haven't properly synched with GuildChat when entering the game. It will not fix a truly broken GuildChat that's not working for everyone.

P.S:

Do your PA and everyone in it a favor by adding GuildChat to your spatial tab, so that you can see important announcements, requests for help, etc. This is done quite simply:

1. Right-click on your Spatial tab, and select "Modify Tab"
2. In the pane on the left titled "Available Chat Channels" or something similar, select "GuildChat"
3. Click the arrow inbetween the two windows to move it to the right window.

Once you've done that, you'll see all GuildChat text in your Spatial tab. To type into GuildChat directly from this window, simply use /gu [text]

Ok, I checked and didn't see this on this board, so I'm going to do a quick write up for everyone that doesn't know all the chat options you have in the game. Alot of PA's already do this on Corbantis, but for those of you who don't know this option:

SETTING UP AN ALTERNATE GUILD CHAT:

1) right click the spatial tab

This will bring up a list of options.

2) select "Join chat channel"

a separate window will pop, giving you options to join or create other chat channels. Most of them are planet related, but at the top (at least for me) you have the option of a general chat channel listing.

3) click the general chat channel selection

You can twiddle this down to see which channels have been made. There may in fact be another twiddleable item underneath this, I don't completely remember.

4) click, "create channel" or "make channel"

This will bring up a box to name your channel, and give it a description. You can also make the channel private, or moderated. I don't know ANY of the channel commands, so maybe someone else can fill this in for me.

5) send /tells or emails to your guild to look for this channel when /gu goes down.

JOINING A PLAYER CREATED CHANNEL:

1) right click the spatial tab
2) click "join channel"
3) select your guilds channel
4) click the join button.

at this point an extra tab will pop into spatial with the channel name.

You can click this tab and type into guildchat.

ASSIGNING GUILDCHAT TO SPATIAL

1) right click the spatial tab
2) click modify tab

this will bring up a list of available channels on the left, and subscribed channels on the right. There are little buttons inbetween the boxes, simply clicking on a channel on the left or right and choosing to add it into the other box through the buttons in the center will subscribe/unsubscribe you to that channel.

I really hope this isn't a redundant post, and hopefully it will help some of you out.

Rock on.
