I think this would be best implemented in a Collusiem or Arenatype structure with Player cities... We could also implement betting where the bets for the loser are divided amongst the betters of the victors. This betting system would be best implemented in a ticket fashion where you purchase a betting voucher for a set amount in the 1K credrange as opposed to just typing /betred 1.

I think this would be quite a dynamic thing to see.. with people filling the stands to watch.. especially if pets would be allowed... and of course pet and weapons would not be used up in these events.. as well as no XP would be gained... I would love to see a squad of10 Commandos battle a pack of10 AT-ST's... but this would never happen unless these faction pets would not die in the arena battles..

a few needed changes for this to work..

- Terrain (walls and rubble)that actually blocks shots... Personally I don't like hiding behind a wall and getting hit... it appears to just add a modifier to MOB's instead of blocking their line of sight.

- hmm I guess thats my only complaint.. hehe

Great Idea 8)

/agree with the arena idea. This is something that i almost expected to appear with the implimentation of city functions.

The GCW is an interesting aspect of SWG. Even though it is in a state of uselessness right now, we are hoping that the devs improve on it. If someone wants to participate in the GCW, it is always best to practice first. Yes, we can practice on creatures and NPCs, but we all iknow that PvP (especially massive PvP) is very different then creatures and NPCs.

I run a rebel PA. We did participate in the GCW and PvP (until decay, we are protesting it now). But we find that some of us are not that experienced in PvP. They are expecting the enemy to act like NPCs which is a problem. We also find that certain groupings can result in different strenghts and weaknesses.

Currently, the battlefields are a great way to practice PvP without risk of death and decay. There are two problems with battlefields.

1) Sometimes there are no imp players opposing us.

2) The imps are trying to win, so we can't take it slow, we have to be on the ball to win.

I would like to see a PA training grounds introduced to SWG. When in a PA hall, a virtual reality type device is worn and you are in a battle field of sorts. It isn't imps vs rebels (though it could be, with rebels pretending to be imps for the simulation). Both sides are formed (could be 3 or 4 sides as well) and objectives are stated. Since we are all on the same side, outside the simulation, we can tell the other side to stop, or wait or whatever and they would listen since they have nothing to gain by not. There would be no experience earned and your weapons and armor would not degrade since it is only a simulation. This could also be a small building that is placed where people who enter it can choose a side and practice.

Agreed, an arena of some sorts would be nice.

As for training with guildmates, I've been thinking of setting up two seperate teams, one getting a PA hall and creating a temporary guild and have the two parts guild war eachother. Then take the war to some desolate place.

Out of curiousity, would allowing Group vs Group duels have the same impact? Then the training could take place anywhere, not just within a specific building under special conditions. It could involve terrain, water, and other elements. It also might be easier to code.

I do agree there need to be better options for practicingPvP, battlefields aren't currently enough.

The group vs group duels would have the same impact, but you would suffer armour decay, weapon decay, and maybe even creature decay, not to mention wounds. The VR thing sounds like a kool idea. Of course it would involve a hellofalot of coding. You'd have to come up with some sort of "areana" place, and have like 600 of them per server. and to use the areana, just go into your guild hall, 'put on' the VR kit, and it takes you to a loading screen, and into the VR areana. I could see it as a possiblity, but it would take SOE forever to code. well maybe not forever, but at least a month.

Sorry for the repost. Something forced it to submit.

You can group duel by having everyone in group 1 duel everyone in group 2 but this isn't the best solution. Somtimes in a middle of a battle, a duel can end, and if you go to far from a person you are dueling, the duel ends.

I don't think it would be very hard for the devs to code something like this. They just need to create a VR type world (similar to battlefields) and load everyone in it. Once in it, the character is locked. During the battle, items will still decay, weapons still get used up but when they leave the VR simulation, everything is returned to where it was before entering the battle. They way commandos with rocket launchers still have a limited supply in battle (and other similar limitations).

I wouldn't even be posting this suggestion if it were not for battlefields being limited to imperials vs rebels. If there were non faction specific battlefields, that would work for me too. Right now, my rebel PA cannot use battlefields to practice PvP which is what we want to do.

Before coming to SWG, I played Earth and Beyond. It is a space MMORG that had no PvP at all. After 3 months of complaining, the devs released the arena. It was basically what I am asking for. No penalty for death and no ammo is used up. For the duration of the battle, you had unlimited lives (though I don't want this for SWG). Now, the PvP arenas were always dead. Why, because it didn't do anything for the game. I think the SWG VR battlefields would be very popular because they would do something for the game. PvP is a very large part of SWG, and hence practice would be an asset. With decay, it is no longer an option to practice in live action, so we need some safe way to practice.

This obviously is not a high priority issue, but if you Jascentiacan tell the devs it is a feature that PAs want and would use, it would be nice to have.
