Thread: Ideas for Guild Events

I have been wondering what other guilds around the galaxies are offering to their members to add player-run content. As many of us want to provide player-provided content for our guild members, the addition of cities and mounts/vehicles makes things easier and yet harder at the same time.

Over the last few months, the holo craze has (at least for my guild) killed grouping and other guild type events. This has been a real bummer so I have been trying to come up with ideas to make the guild more interesting and possibly interact with other guilds to provide our guild members some content.

I would really like to hear some of your ideas for keeping long-time players and new players interested, meeting each other and doing guild-type events together.

To get it started, I have listed below some of the ideas I have had to see if others come out or expand.

Guild Event Ideas:

  • PVE Guild Hunts: Your typical mission based gathering of the guild to raise money for the guild expenses. Our guild is a mix of really strong master-level characters and new characters so we try to break teams up so nobody is bored or out of their league. This has turned into a big planning event as we may end up having 3-5 teams of 3-4 players going to 4-5 different planets. The main rule is you can't hunt with anyone you hunted last time with. You have to find new members to hunt with and get to know. This is strictly voluntary.

  • PVE Guild Hunts for Resources: Pretty much the same as above, but we focus on all those with scouting skills pick one item to harvest and donate it to the artisans who need it. Wooly hide seems to be the big thing with our armorsmith so we have our scouts/rangers find good things to hunt (in the best quality) and everyone harvests those together. If missions for these types of animals are available, the players get the pay for these as the resources are being donated.

  • PVE Faction Hunts: Our guild is made up of all Rebels and like to get together to hunt specifically PVE bases. For these we do not make it mandatory to go Overt. This would include thiings like Battlefields.

  • PVP Faction Hunts: Everyone goes Overt and we pick a city in advance and see what trouble our guild can cause. Theguild's desire for thisactivity has significantly decreased since the addition of decay.

  • Guild Dueling Competitions: Once a month, we try to hold a duel for all members to square off and the winner of the tree gets a prize. It is open to anyone in the guild. At the end of the night, everyone squares off in front of the guild hall and we have an old-fashioned bar-room brawl to see who is last one standing. We also use this time for stronger players to teach tactics to newer players in preparation for PVP events.

  • Guild Quest Events: Small groups are set up and they go out to do quests. Once each of them are finished, they can swap with other teams or talk in guild chat about how to best finish the quests.

  • Guild Races: With mounts out, we pick a starting waypoint and and ending waypoint and the first 3 to the end ar e the winners. The winners get a prize made by an artisan (tailor, chef, etc). They are on their own if they get agro'd (and we usually try to find difficult routes to provide a 'baha' type challenge)

  • Role-Playing Events: We would like to do this more but we haven't been able to think of anything. Suggestions from other RP would be appreciated.

  • Guild Ranking System: I have been noticing some ideas on this and have been planning on this type of system. We plan to incorporate winning points with some of the events listed above to help their ranks increase.

  • Guild Scavenger Hunt: The guild leader comes up with a big list of items (loot, artisan made, whatever) and whichever guildmate brings all of the items back first wins a prize.

So here are some ideas I have, anyone else have others?

Those are all good ideas and things that we have done.

One of the key things that my PA does is rotate who is in charge of the activity...all members get a turn. This gets everyone involved and ensures that activities are of high variety. The activities represent what everyone wants to do, over time.

Advice on roleplaying events: The events you have listed can become roleplayevents... youjust need a "theme" or a storyline attached to them.My PA is into roleplaying, and during a roleplay activity we try to speak "in character" in spatial and emotes (though in group and guild chat we're still our normal selves). Another fun roleplaying spin is to "abduct" unsuspecting bystanders andswoopthem up into your story/activity. We do this all the time, it's hilarious. It is fun for everyone and we tend to make some excellent friends out of strangers (and find a few recruits as well).

You may want to try a social activity such as a fashion or talent show. These provide an outlet for the creative-types in your PA, and even the killer-types get involved and make people laugh. Offer nice prizes for these events to encourage participation, if needed.

I run a lot of server events. We're a pretty small guild and so we take it upon ourselves to host for everyone's enjoyment.

We've held:

Talent Contests - 2 of them called Theed Idol

Murder Mystery - a "Who Done It" in our PA hall

Currently hosting a Lottery

Next up will be like a big fair or so for the official opening of the City of Polaris to the public (we were way far out without a shuttle) with several events to happen like a scavenger hunt, pvp events, entertainment events and the like.

I want to try a fishing tourney, A race with pets / vehicles or whatever and anything else I can think of

I had thought about a lottery as I think it would 1) be fun for some people and 2) help bring some people into see our new village.

It seems you had worked out a lot of the details I was thinking of. I had planned on hand-making hundreds of Dice and logging the serial numbers, storing those in a database and having a program randomly select the winner.

My question to answer was how to notify everyone that purchased a ticket. I had thought that when they bought a dice, I would add their name to an email and then announce the winner that way. 80% of the total is what I was thinking of as well for a prize.

Thanks much for the suggestions. Let's keep this going as I think it could be helpful.

I used the bazaar to distribute the tickets. I got emails on thesale to record the purchaser. I put individual numbers on each of the tickets to make easier to track than the serial numbers and build a php random number generator to pick the winner.

I'll be standing in a public area to announce the winning number as well as posting on the boards all at the same time to let everyone know. Only one that will get an email from me will be the winner so I can meet up with him for the prize distribution.

If this is popular and there is a public outcry for more, I will be using a private vendor rather than the bazaar. I didn't know you were limited to 25 items until this event and that was just extra work for me to make sure it was stocked. People suggested a merchant tent just outside Theed for the vendor and i think that might be the way to go
