I originally posted this on the Core Systems forum, but KStarfire (the CORE SW Correspondant told me to post it her, he also said he agreed with my post and actually pushed for this in Beta ).

I came from UO, those of you who did will probably have noticed one majot difference in SWG when you made your PA; you can't attack fellow members. When I made my PA I felt like I had wasted my money building the hall. Many people are probably wondering why would anyone want to attack people in their own PA? Here's a few reasons:

1) If you could attack people in your PA then you would be able to have mass group battles for fun without having to /duel each other.

2) You could easily play CounterStrike-esq games within your PA, eg. capture flag, King of the Hill type game where you need teams (so you could split your PA into teams) and the time limit on /duel would not be an issue.

3) You could actively train each other by being able to fight, surprise attacks are impossible if you have to use a /duel command before hand. You could train your recruits up in fighting before you took them out onto the battlefield to get slaughtered.

I at least think this should be an option that PAs can turn on and off. It was done in UO and was one of the main reasons I made a PA, likewise with SWG (much to my dissapointment) being that I have made an RP PA in the hope that people could fight each other without having to /duel.... Kstarfire said he brought this up to be in Beta but the DEVs couldn't see why anyone would want it. The above are some of the reasons why, it is one of the things from UO that I wish was in SWG (that an the ability to 8x8.. but thats a whole different story )

I've heard of really complex scenarios involving whole new structures (arenas) but this seems like it could achieve some of the same goals with less work on the part of the Devs. Another idea I had seen promoted once was /groupduel. Thunderheart will be giving us an idea of what is possible regarding PA requests soon. I'll try to see where this falls on the "doable" or "not doable (without big headaches)" list.

The only problem I see with /duel is the time limit or distance (not sure if it cuts out once you go so far away..). For example I'm an RPer and at the moment I have been playing NPC chars for plots and stuff in my community, one of the ones I was playing the other night was a fugitive running from one of our local STs. He had to /duel me as we were in the same PA (my char is a support char) and was hunting me through Mos Espa. Only problem was the /duel kept timing out which was stupid as it meant we had to stop, meet up, duel, let me run off a bit then carry on fighting.... we tried to make the most of a really lame situation due to game mechanics (and RPers nightmare ).

I think an On/Off switch for the PA's would be great. Either your PA is set up in training mode where everyone can attack each other and train tactics, or in safety mode for things like PA Hunts so that you don't accidentally target your own PA members (although we have OOC hunts with enemy RP PAs and we are yet to accidentally target them in battle yet). It could either be a PA Leaders swtich so the whole PA switches, or an extra option added to the terminal for PA Members as to whether they are attackable by members or not.

The main reason I bring this idea forward (and its not a knew one, like I said it was done in UO) is that I have a PA with about 60 members on it who are RPers. We're grouped under the PA to be recognized as an RP community, but we are not all allies with each other, some members in the PA are RP enemies with other members. Being able to fight internally with a perma-TEF would be so great, however this is a personal thing for me, which is why the ideas I submitted would benefit other PAs and not just mine.
