Thread: Voice chat Sever for Guild

I'm sure you could get a low end dedicated server for a low price, but I'm not sure how much memory voice chat takes up. You get a good server and install Teamspeak, that might work well.

Depending on your conection ie 256kbs you should be able to host a server for 5-8 ppl if you keep the codec bit rate set low, you can do this with teamspeak experiment with diferent rates for clarity, as for getting a satic ip theres no point goto http://www.dyndns.org/services/dyndns/for details you can set a dns name that can be mapped to your current ip no matter what it is and people just connect to that address is team speak. i have ran various servers using this and havent had a problem.

Teamspeak doesn't care if you are using a static or a dynamic IP. But if your IP changes, you would have to tell everyone what your new IP address is. If you don't turn your computer off too often (or use a router), your IP should rarely change anyway.

Looking for a voice chat server for my guild that dosnt require a Static IP address and is free or inexpensive for my guild (and my Jedi gank squad hunting parties /evilgrin)
The few ive come across work best with a Static IP, but i dont want to pay my ISP the extra 30 bucks a monthfor it 
So know any progs that fit that profile? Free would be a nice feature also!!!

This is off topic for this forum, since it doesn't involve any type of discussion about in game features. However.. if you don't have a static IP and you want to host a voice server you're going to have to give out your IP every day or everytime you connect to your ISP so people will know what address they need to connect to. At the same time, its going to affect your latency within the game as well because the more people who are on your serve the more demanding it will be on your connection.
The best option if you want to do something like this is finding somewhere that will host it. There are a number of different programs out there that will do it and companies that host those servers for a fee. The two most popular are Teamspeak and Ventrillo (I think thats right). Personally I use Teamspeak, which is a free program to both use and host a server with, but without a static IP it would be very difficult.
Try doing a search on Google and I'm sure you'll find plenty of information.

Thanks for all the feeback, been stuck at work (aka HELLs Dungeon) and i havnt had a chance to foillow up on this thread. Looks like ill give teamspeak a try, my ISP just upgrated our DL speed to 5Mb Woot, (for FREE Puteris on all the time with a routher. Sooo Thanks!!!!!!!
