Thread: Language Learning Idea...

Wasn't sure where else to make this suggestion, but since "Grouping" is part of this, and one has to group to learn a language...



So languages are kind of devalued. They need to be worth more. This is just a small suggestion, and isn't revolutionary or anything but what if you didn't learn languages IMMEDIATELY. What if you slowly learned them over like, a week , or a month or something. And while you're learning you start understanding more and more every day. So first it's, "Grblenixh Kavyshtavych. Gragoahar hoocha woocha yo' momnma." Next day, or whatever it's, "Grblenixh Kavyshtavych. Obtain hoocha woocha for momnma." And so on and so on. It might make languages a tad more interesting.

I'd suggest the actual Core Systems board for this suggestion. It's under the professions boards. That'll be the best place to get this seen.

On a side note, I've been wanting languages to be more important since beta, but I doubt we'll see it anytime soon since there are much more important things to deal with.

That's a good idea.

In my opinion 1 month for a language would be a perfect settings, becauseonly an expert player could know:


Moncalamarian

Bothese

Ithorian

Sullusteen

Shriywook

Dosh

Zabrak

Ryl

Rodese


Then they could create special languages like Huttese, Jawas, Black Sun secret language...

It's not a bad idea it's just too complicated since people have to talk to each other to get things done


and i know someone's gonna say Droid Translator but that's way too much coding and testing and I'd rather have the Devs fix what needs to be fixed first.

Lol! I was looking for the Core boards adn thought, foolishly that Core Systems would be where it's at. I thought it all got re-orged. LOL! Thanks, I'll repost it there. I appreciate all the feedback by the way. This really is just a little idea. As a smuggler with a useless +100 language comprehension having languages mean something is a notion near and dear to me as well.

One problem i can see is Wookiees. As they can only speak Shriywook (sp??) and cannot learn to talk any other language, ok they can understand other langs but they would still have to learn them and everybody would have to start off with their own lang and basic otherwise thats most of "MMO" part of the game out the window. But some nice ideas, something does need to be done about the langs but as it's a MMORPG it is/will be quite hard to make this work properly.

Well of course everyone starts out understanding basic. But I don't think Shryywook problem is that big of a problem. It makes a certain amount of continuity sense. Most people didn't understand the wookiee language. And it still won't take all that long, compared to how long you are supposed to be playing, after all, you play these games for the long haul.


And besides this is just an idea. I think an actual GOOD fix would be to make languages fun and necessary, such as NPC's who speak their native tongues. But that's a separate discussion.
