Thread: is it possible for a guild to change leader?
Hmm.. that is NOT supposed to happen and this is by far the first I've heard of it happening. If the old leader did not leave the guild then there should be no way for that person to become leader without 51% of the guild voting for them, which I would have to agree it'd be near impossible for that to happen over night. I would very much recommend sending in a ticket in game to a CSR so they can look into it and see what happened. I'm not sure what they can do though since they don't have the ability to switch leaders, but maybe they can figure it out.
Send in a ticket with all the details of the guild, the old leader, the fact that he is still in the guild and never left, that the new person had joined less than 24 hours ago, and that to your knowledge no one set allegiance to any new leader and that it just changed. One question, is the old leader still active or is he inactive? Just curious about that one, let the CSR know as well. Let me know what the CSR says please. I know they can check the logs and if it is a bug, it's one we really need to try to squash.
EDIT: Also, with the new member now being leader, see if he is able to alter permissions and such. Also check to see if the old leader is able to do so if they are still active. Let me know that and put it in the ticket as well. We'll figure this out.

My dilemma is that this was done on purpose somehow by the quild leaders. The new leader is somehow related to the previous guild leader and the outcome isn't necessarily unacceptable. I am reluctant to report it because for now I intend to stay in the guild and since our guild leaders do little or nothing it is of little consequence.
My concern is how it happened and that when I have asked about it no one in the guild knows anything about it and since the new leader hasn't logged in when I have I can't ask them directly.
As for details.... The old guild leader was not renewing her subscription this month so I assume they wanted a new guild leader that could actually log on. The old guild leader did not leave the guild and on the members list is still indicated by [Guild Leader] on the guild member list on the guild terminal. It is possible that this did not update for some reason but is has now been a couple of days with no change. Under the "Guild Information" the new guild leader is listed as leader.
Since the old leader is out of communication, the new leader is nowhere to be seen I can't answer any of the questions about permission. For our guild the outcome issomewhat acceptable though I am not overly happy about it.Myconcern is that this change could happen like this and the way it was changed someone clearly knew what they were doing so I assumed they were taking advantageof a well known bug or game mechanic.
I am thinking about filing a ticket just so I can understand what happened, but wanted to make sure that I wasn't out of line. Many have reported unhappy outcomes from contacts with CSRs and I don't want to start any interactions with them for fear that things will end up worse than they are now if I do.
So please, contact a CSR with as much info as possible and have them look into it and say that the guild never used the allegiance process to change leaders and that it is a bug or exploit that was used to do it and you'd like for it to be investigated so it can be fixed in the future. Let them know that the guild is fine with the new leader and you're just trying to find out how it happened since youw ere asked to by the PA Correspondent so I could present it to the Devs as a bug. (Assuming I can reproduce it.)
That's all I'm asking. If the guild is fine with the new leader, then that isn't an issue. I just want to make sure the bug gets fixed or we at least know how to do it to help people out who are in a situation where they can't change leaders.

Did the old leader EVER quit the guild at all? Did you get any emails saying they had left and rejoined? Because that is the only known way to work around the allegiance process, if they used any other means you need to contact a CSR (whether you want the new leader removed or not isn't the point) it's so we can find out how this bug happened so it can get fixed. That's pretty much an exploit and should not be able to be done.

I finally heard back from the old leader on our guild web site. It turns out the person that returned to the guild and became the new guild leader had been a guild leader previously. Since theold guild leader had left the guild previously and had not rejoined I did recognize their name.
So as you mentioned above, an old guild leader rejoined the guild and became the leader again the next day. Since you know that this is already a problem it solves the mystery for me. Thanks for your help sorting this out.
