Thread: Guild Web Portal Design: Need feedback

I am currently working on a guild portal. And am trying to figure out the best way to handle guild roster interface. I have checked out guildportal.com and find the interface lacking and somewhat clunky. Also I do not like the multiple chars per 1 sign in name(user account). I think it forces OOC on the forums, when you see the username how do you no which char is posting? So I was thinking that a single sign in per character would be beneficial in that aspect. Also I see very limited use of the rosters themselves. Although I do like the awards and medals interface. And it does not look like the Raid Point system is used much in SWG. Also I would like to here what features you would like to see in a guild hosting site, and which you would use most often. Thank you for your feedback in advance.

well I for one can say that the guildportal is a nice aid to impove communicatio within and towards your members. Who cares about the roster? let people sign up, and state they must use their in-game names. That way there will be no confusion when someone posts something on the forums. Other than that, I've tried setting up a system for the medals/raids, but it's quite hard to maintain all of that. guildportal is nice, clean, simple and easy to use.

If you want an example of a site, here's ours: www.desertsun.tk will direct you

this will direct you to Phalanx Guild of Bloodfin, check it out.

We do not use the Raid point system because no one keeps active records of who attends and how would our guild give out points to people that stay for half but have to leave because of RL issues. I like the forums, the multiple char thing doesnt bother me at all its nice to know who controls all of them.

My suggestion for the script would be to open source it and release it under the GPL and let each guild customize it and add to it over time, like so many of the content management systems allow.

You could still host sites through your service, but you'll find if you open source it, the script will always become better and better as each guild is unique and would like to design it independantly, as well as host it independantly.
