Thread: Trying to change the NAME of my guild, BUT wanting to keep the TAG

A few months ago we tried to change the name of our guild, something hard to do as its one of the oldest on our server and the first guild I've been in, however even after a few months it never changed. I just sorta left it at that as some sort of sign lol. However, the issue has come back up and im trying to change the name again. Not changing it to the same name we tried before, but a different one. We want to keep the tag. In both cases we pass through the name filters perfectly fine. Just after thesaid numberdays, nothing happens. On this current change, its been 7 days so far. I plan to wait a few more to see what happens before doign anything. However I suspect the following rules apply to changing guild name tag, but were not specified during the process:

You cannot changeONLY our NAME.

You cannot change ONLY your TAG.

I am wondering if this is true and thus causes my issue.

Thanks for any help .

That may be the case, but it was always my understanding that you could change one or the other by putting in the same information if you wanted to keep it. One problem we've constantly come across is that when name changes don't go through we don't get any error message saying why. I'll make sure to submit this as a bug again to see if we can figure it out.

I know for a fact though that it was on our wishlist that I submitted for things we'd like to see changed. Hopefully if you keep trying it will eventually change.

Yes, that is the bad thing. I wouldn't recommend going that route unless you absolutely want to take that chance. I would hope that the current name wouldn't be so bad that you couldn't afford to keep it until things can be fixed.

Wow...we just went through this.

Just as Ruh said, our guild voted to change the name but keep the tag initials.

I tried everything to do that but it did not take.

I reported it and a CSR (DaveS) said it was not possible do to "game coding".

Wierd that someone else is having the same problem.

So what did you guys (/cower dont keel meh liani ) end up doing. Another option I suppose would be to disband the guild and reform. Unless there is a wait period before the same guild tag can be put back into circulation.

As far as holding on to the name, its pretty important that we make the change sooner rather than later. Especially since a lot of RP would be impacted, not to mention the past week of straightweb design that I've been working on. lol

There should not be any wait time once you disband, it should be available again right after. One thing to remember though, when you disband you will have to reinvite everyone and the guild hall you use to recreate it will have to be redeeded and replaced for it to free from the old guild (I think. If you actual disband it might free it up automatically, but if not, you'd need to replace it.)

I have to say, disbanding a guild isn't my area of expertise, but it might be something I'll have to test on Test Center to get some more information on it.

Thanks, hopefully that will be a last resort. Im hoping to log in to a reply from a CSR with good news . But that isn't too likely.

But yea, the main issue will be having to reinvite members. Mainly because we have so many inactives people who are waiting from GCW Revamp/CU/etc to happen before returning. Hopefully we won't have to go through that.

I can already tell you that a CSR will not be able to help you. They really aren't able to alter guild names / tags etc.. unless they violate the naming policy. So I wouldn't recommend getting your hopes up there too much. Though, maybe if it was bugged and should have changed they might be able to. Let us know.

Just read my ticket and this is what it said:

CSR replied:
Hello,

This is CSR-JoseO. When you change your guild's name you also have to change the tag, otherwise the name change might not go through...[standard ticket closing stuff]

So, its a bit conflicting. The CSR says the change MAY not go through if the tag isn't changed. Which doesn't surprise me. The conflict though is he doesn't sayit definitivly, so what you said, Rothin, could still be true I suppose.

/sigh who knows. I'll figure something out I guess lol.

Thanks for the help .

From that, I'd say it is more likely that it won't go through unless you change both. I'll see if I can get some clarification though.
