To keep it short:

I got "Challenged" to war some guild on the Eclipse server yesterday
The problem is that I got alot of crafters in my guild, and don't want to hurt them in anyway.

When you "war" another guild, can we then attack eachother anywhere?regardless of faction? or?

please explain, im sorry if I didn't browse the forum good enough to find a similiar post but...

It works and it is a very bad idea if you have anyone in your guild who doesn't want to subject themselves to random combat.

I am pressing for a guildwar revamp that would allow members of any warring guild to go "covert" for the sake of guildwar enemy flags. So, they could help by healing a member of their guild but then they would have a TEF to the opposing guild. OR, if they don't want to be involved at all they can remain safe.

The current implementation is horrible, which is why no one seriously uses it.

There is no covert, there is no grace period after death, there are no safe areas, there is no way to get out of it other than quitting the guild or ending the war. The potential griefing applications of these shortfalls is left as an exercise to the reader.

The crazy thing is that the guild that has challenged you has opened themselves up to all sorts of hardship. We've been challenged also, and have opted to abstain because of our large amount of crafters. However, while playing around a bit.......we discovered that as long as the challege remains, we can accept and unaccept at will. Kinda like flipping a light switch. To test this i had a member find a member of the opposing PA. He found an afk dancer in a cantina. I had him wait until i accepted. The dancer immediately became targetable. Being a person of honor, i immediately flipped the switch back off. The dancer was no longer targetable, but my member have a 5min structure TeF. The point is that a challenging guild is at an extreme disadvantage because the guild that challeneged tham can litterally attack whenever they wish w/o any repercussions.

i really dont like that idea, a guild war is supposed to allow open combat between the 2 guilds. if you dont want to be involved you can /guildremove til its over, or perhaps the guild isnt right for you if your leader accepts a war without the entire guilds consent. i can see maybe putting it on a vote system like leadership transfer

My take is this...

Guildwars SHOULD be "anything goes" for those guilds who have a desire to play that way. However, it is totally obvious that the guildwar system would be more widely used if it had some options. The standard method of guildwar would still exist, but if two guilds wished to allow members to remain covert for the sake of guildwar, then they should be able to select those terms when they initiate and agree to guildwar. Your guild would never have to be a part of the more limited style of guildwar, you could be an "open war only" guild.

well of course we wouldnt HAVE to be part of that style, but now whenever you offer a guild war thats the only type ppl would accept. if it were changed likethat i think it would have to be decided at the begining if you or were not involved. if you are "covert" in the guild war you shouldnt be able to heal the members that are "overt". not very fair to not be open to attack but still be able to impact the war

and yes i understand the tef system but that doesnt help when a guild doc buffs everyone then just hides out for 5min, when a buff lasts 3-4hours
