Thread: Crafting House idea...

OK folks, let me lay this one down on ya...

When I started my first guild (well before the BS holo grind) we were all working on mastering our chosen professions. We had a large Tatooine house we called simply "The Crafting House". We used it to... well craft. We all pooled our resources together and helped each other out.We were all very successful with this. However, it did havea downside; mainly folks hangin on to stuff while they were off line. So here's a thought to improve on that idea.

This could work one of two ways; a new stand alone "Crafting House", or add it to the already existing housing code.

You have tons and tons of resources right, and you have a group of folks you share resources and craft with. What if you had a house where you could leave your resources on the floor, and still have them come up in the crafting window. And only those on the admin list could access them. So you wouldn't have to put the stuff in your personal inventory, but you could still use it to craft with. This would be a far better way to share resources between a group of crafters than dumping your inventory every night and hoping someone doesn't forget to do the same.

Or does anyone else work like this?

Just a thought, tell me what you think.

I mean it does and would have a huge impact on how guilds run, no doubt about that. But the architects would be the one to make the actual structures, so it would need to go through their correspondant more so than Jas. For us, it'd be more of adding different permissions to current structures to allow this type of access which could be an idea we could discuss.

If you wanted the actual structure though, architect. The idea though is a good one. But I think it would require a good deal of development and coding time, which the devs aren't going to give it anytime soon unfortunitly. They have their plate full with the combat pass, combat roles, jedi revamp, and the upcoming space expansion. We can continue to hope though.

The Architect forum would be a better place to discuss this one since it involves new housing types.

Yes and no, I thought it was more of a guild thing, but...

This does sound like a feature that wouldn't be exlusive to PAs. Though I'm not quite sure Architect is the perfect place for it either. Most of the coding for this feature would go into the crafting system of being able to use the *house* you are in as one of the containers you could select resources from. With that in mind, I'd suggest the Artisan Correspondent.

However, some of us know it took a VERY long time just to get it set up where you could use resources that were inside a backpack on your person. So this would likely take even longer.

Yes, thank God.

That's how I survive now - I just keep all my usable stacks in a backpack or two (seperate from my 100K stacks and rare minerals) that I pick up when I craft, and drop when I'm not (sometimes I'm naughty and even drop them in a factory).

I like this idea though - not even to share resources but just to be able to organize things better. Like others, however, I doubt it's viability of implementation - but it is a nice thought.

A Crafters House could almost be a good 'player' city building. I look at the current houses and think...wouldn't it be cool if there were alcoves in the wall for crafting stations, and looked more like a workplace than a place of residence.

I suppose the shared resources idea is what the hoppers were for in the crafting stations. Its a pity these take up slots in the house though.

Hoppers? You could/can do something with em?

I use them sometimes, but yeah, they are kinda pointless since you can't share the materials between different crafting stations. So if you need to make a artisan component for a structure you might as well just carry all the materials in your backpack. They should have made it like this:

In every house there is a hopper item, accessible, openable and useable without crafting stations, or tools. You dump all your resources in there out of the way. Maybe it has compartments as well so you can seperate good materials from grinding quality.

When you put a crafting station in a house it accesses this secondary storage area. That way you can share hopper space between the crafting stations.
