Thread: need some help with phpBB boards pls

As the title say's i need some help. Im in the midst of setting up a guild and i want a message board for it. I have seen a few guild's use phpBB message boards but i have no idea how to get them. I have the address of it http://www.phpbb.com/support/documents.php?mode=installthis links directly to the download section but i have no idea what to download or anything. pls could somebody who has a phpBB board pls help me with this and tell me what to download.

You've got a long way to go.
First, you need to find a host that supports php (you could setup your own server but the way you word your question... I doubt you'd want to do that). cost: around $10 a month
Second, you need to buy a domain name: cost: around $8 a year
Third, then you would install and setup phpbb.
To do step 3, first you make directory space on your web site, then you use an ftp app to upload the extracted files you download from www.phpbb.com's site (download the latest version), then you follow directions.
When you get all that done... then you shop around for the appropriate mods to your system that you want to install, and learn enough about programming and php to install them.

You also have to make sure the host supports mysql databases for the phpBB boards to use. I'd suggest trying one of the other boards that some sites offer unless you want to begin paying for hosting. Guildportal.com offers nice features for free, including message boards. Just a thought.
If not.. I'd seek more help on the actual phpBB forums, they'll be able to help you more than anyone.

Mush easier to manage and looks better.
