The guild that my friend(real life friend) and I started is pretty much dead. We have about 12 members listed for the guild but of those 12 only 5 are playing and thats just my friend and I plus alts. The question I have is should we try and get new members or just disband. Most of the people just dont seem to want to play anymore and a few moved on to guilds with tons of people and such.
Its not like we dont like just talking to one another but what I am wondering is... are we wasting 7 lots for a chat channel between just the two of us. Any comments and sugestions would be welcome. Any tips on recruiting members(dont want to just let anyone into the guild) or what.
I dont want to just drop out on the two people or so that might actually still play this game. I might send out an email to everyone listed as in the guild and see if they even play anymore since there is a chance we just play at a differnt time then them but most likely not.
Thanks for reading!

HA has held together now for 21 months (we formed back in Feb of 93) and is still going strong. So while I can't tell you definitively the right answer, I can speak to what has held us together. From the beginning, HA was a group of very easy going folks who were VERY focused on having fun. We knew we wanted to be Rebel, but other than that we have always been about whatever is going to be the most fun for the membership. And while we have OFTEN not really agreed on what that is, we have sustained ourselves because we strongly share that common goal. Now while I'm not suggesting that your guild must share that goal to sustain itself, I do think that it is critical that you share some common theme or objective. Once you have a clear purpose to rally around it is MUCH easier to recruit and sustain members. Plus, quite frankly, I think the last few months have really been a bloodbath for most guilds membership-wise (between frustration over JtL/revamp, back to school season, and the much anticipated release of a couple competing titles) so I wouldn't let the current environment daunt you if your guild does have a clear objective but still can't retain members. If your goal is worth the effort of sticking with it AND you're willing to work for it then you can keep the guild alive and make it prosper.

You keep the guild open so long as being in the guild is fun and not like a job. I have played as a guild leader in a large guild a regular member in a large guild, a small guild leader and a small guild member.
When I stopped enjoying a roll I moved on.When a guild was more work then fun I spoke to the members then folded the guild. Going guildless is not the end of the world. Finding a new guild can be fun too you meet new players and learn new ways to fight.

As it's been said above, whether to keep a guild going or not is a personal judgement call. If you really enjoy the guild and the company, then it shouldn't matter if its 5 people or 100 people in the guild and it should keep going. If you feel the need to be in a larger guild than you want to make sure the others feel the same way and you could work together to help the guild grow.
It's always best to try to plan ahead and decide what you wish to do. I'd speak first with the other members and ask them how they feel about the state of the guild and what they'd like to do. The sign of a good leader is one who listens to those under him.
So if they're willing and you still are, work together to transform the guild back into a vision that you all share no matter what the size of it may be.

The Argonian Ryders were formed back in May of 2003,we've had our ups and downs. I even stepped down as leader for a few months because of RL issues. The guild has stuck together, and we are all good friends, even tho we've never actually met.
I say stick with it, and rebuild. Make new friends.
