One of the major problems with GCW/PvP in this game is in my opinion that there is an 'all or nothing' situation when it comes to PvP.
I like going overt and go out hunting alone but of course it happens that I run into a squad of 5+ opponents, and then I die.
Likewise, my guild and I go overt in a group to go out hunting, and then we usually run into single overt opponents, and then we win.

This is my suggestion regarding Guildwars, which I think is a good way to keep up the GCW and to increase the amount of PvP in the game.
Options for Guildwar
Full guildwar/War with dedicated players toggle
A full guildwar would work like it does today. Any player can attack any enemy guildmember.
A dedicated player's war is different. Here the guild appoints guild-soldiers. In the guildwar options the two guilds agree on a max and min number of soldiers. For example 5-8. Both guilds must then at all times have at least 5 soldiers appointed and they can have no more than 8. The names of the soldiers can be changed in the guildterminal anytime.
Dying would give you a temporary 'white flag' for lets say 20 mins, after that you will become an active soldier again.
I think this would get more guilds involved in the GCW. Most guilds have crafters/entertainers and rookies in their guilds and therefore refrain from entering guildwars. With these options I believe more guilds will have the courage to enter the GCW since players who do not wish to PvP will have immunity.
Geographical limits
To prevent city-camping there should also be a geographical options menu.
If for example a Lok-based guild is in war with a Dantooine-based guild, it could be an idea to have a permanent truce on these two planets to prevent city-camping. On all other planets fighting is allowed whenever an enemy is encountered.

Team/Individual Fight toggle
This idea might be a bit controversial, but I think it would be good.
Team fighting works just as usual. It can be a 5 vs 1 fight for example.

If the individual fight option is chosen however, there can only be one-on-one fighting. If a team of 5 encounters a single enemy, the first of the team to attack/be attacked will fight exclusively with the opponent. The others can't join the fight until their team-member is incapped, and then only one at a time.
This can be considered a 'code-of-honor' option. Some guild have this as an oral agreement when fighting already, to make the fights more balanced and more interesting.
However I think it would be a nice thing to intoduce a thing like this within the rules of the game as well.
Timelimited/Indefinately
Indefinately obviously means that the war goes on until further notice.
A timelimited war is set to a certain amount of days. When the time expires, the war will end.
War status/Reward
The war status should be viewable from the guildterminal with a bit of statistics. Maybe just the number of kills from both sides.
Reward might be a bit more difficult to implement but it would be nice that after a longer war (say minimim 30 days) the winning guild (the one with the most kills) is awarded a War Trophy.
The winning guildleader will recieve it after the war is over. It could be some sort of cup which says something like:

Your idea would go hand in hand with my most recent idea that I released on the starsider forums. At the time I forgot there was a PA board under the profession boards. I'll be posting my idea on here very shortly. Check it out from the link in my sig.

You are totally right about that!
Fortunately it's not my problem... 
I just pay my monthly fee to have a good gaming experience, and with these changes I know I would enjoy the game a lot more.
