Afternoon all,
Way back this time last year, a group of players formed a guild on Chimaera called INCAP.
All was going well, until the guild leader cancelled his subscription without letting us know. So the guild pretty much split up, I left it as well and over time a lot of members cancelled their accounts.
Then I decided to reactivate the guild and get everyone back that was still active, an idea which was well received.
So, I put down a guildhall with an alt and transferred it to a member of INCAP, who created the guild on the terminal and transferred it back to the alt.
All going well so far, I found I had access to an account of an guildmember that had guild militia rights so I signed everyone back up, including my main char who is to be the new leader.
So here is the problem, there were 33 members on the terminal, and out of those onlyfour or so are still on active accounts, the rest have cancelled and moved on.
No problem, I think, I'll just sign up enough people to get 51% of the vote... but the more I sign up, the more I need...
Let's see...
29 members haven't voted for me, I need another 29, or 59 to get 51%... right?
So far I have 5 new members signed up and voted for me with many more to come, so I need 24 at the moment.
Does that all sound right? I'm probably better off creating a totally new guild but there is a certain history associated with it.
I think I can get enough characters to sign up an vote for me though using alts and cross server characters, just so I can get my main in as leader and then kick all the dead characters out.
All I need to know is have I worked this out right?
I contacted a CSR to see if there was anythig they could do and they confirmed what I thought... no.
You help in this matter is appreciated.

Here is basically how it works.
You have 10 members, you need 6 to win.
You have 20 members, you need 11 to win.
You have 30 members, you need 16 to win.
You have 50 members, you need 26 to win.
Etc..
So the more people you add, the more you are going to need to win. But, once you overwhelm the inactives with more actives it won't be a problem. However you could arrange this is up to you. And yes, CSRs are not able to transfer leadership of guilds to anyone else. They're not supposed to interfer in guilds, cities, etc.. I don't blame them a bit for that policy.
It would be easiest to start a new guild, but if you're really determined to regain control of this one you're taking the only action you can to do it. Just remember though, the voting resets weekly when the guild updates so you will need to make sure people keep voting for you as well if its ever going to switch leadership.
Best of luck, if you have any other questions let me know.

I should also mention that the Allegiance process and changing guild leaders / guild management is one of our Top 5 and I've submited alternative thoughts on how the system could be improved to make it easier on guilds in your situation.

Thanks Rothin,
I read your top five issues and saw that my problem was in there, I was a tad confused about the numbers... also I didn't know people had to revote every week, that would make it impossible I think.
Cheers for clearing that up for me.
I reckon I'll have to come up with a new guild abbreviation.
*wanders off to have a think*

Yeah it isn't easy to fix when this happens, that's why I'm hoping that we can get some positive changes made some time in the future.

Isn't the DB clean up occuring soon where they will delete old cancelled subscriptions. If so, you may find the majority of the inactives disapearing.

It was originally planned before JTL back in October and then monthly there after, but it has been delayed obviously. No clue when it's going to happen but I think it is still planned. I'll see if I can find anything else out about it. I'm waiting for it as well though because I think it will clear up a lot of the inactive problem people are experiencing.

That sounds like good news, in that case I think we'll tick along just using the milita member to sign people up until then, although I know there is no definate timeframe for this, when it comes to needing something fixed inSWG you have to have patience.
Thanks again.

Another maybe thought...
Does anyone in the guild currently have the ability to change the guildtag? If so, you could always attempt to change it to sometime you don't want, and then eventually a new guild could be created with the old tag.
It would take some time, because I'm not sure exactly how long it takes for the tags to recycle, but they do eventually drop. We'd looked at changing our guildtag and couldn't because it was in use. That guild was disbanded, and we were still stuck. However, a few months or so later we tried again, and got the tag we wanted.
Just another option

When the guild tag is changed, it should be instantly available again. It shouldn't take time to recycle unless maybe something strange was going on at the time and it didn't show the name as being out of us. But I can state from personal experience that I've formed and disbanded and reformed a guild with the same tag in a matter of minutes.
Odds are though, in the current situation their in, I doubt anyone would have the ability to change the guilds name since they also can't remove players. (I'm trying to remember the original thread when I read it, since I only read reply) but if someone can do it, I'd highly suggest just changing name and tag to something else and then trying to recreate with the old info.
Best of luck!
