Well, in EQ2 without mentoring you can only group within a few levels of your own if you want to get exp.. That is what mentoring allows, you can get a high level player to temporarily lower their level so they can group with a lower level friend.
In SWG anyone can group with anyone. If you're level 80 and they are level 1, you can still group. They are not as strong as a normal level 80 player obviously, but they can still hit the enemies you fight (appropriate enemies based on the *group* level) and will get full exp for their level based on the /con color of the enemy.
i.e. if you are level 7 solo a white con (level 7 enemy) and get 300 exp, then get into a group that is level 80 and kill a white con (level 80 enemy) you will still get 300 exp or so.

That has not been my experience since the CU, if I'm more than 10 levels different than the person I'm grouped with, neither of us gets any xp. I will test it again, but I know that was the case immediately after the CU, and as recently as a week ago.

As long as you are fighting something appropriate to the highest level person in the group then you should be getting xp. When the CU first came out, I was level 54, but playing with level 80s and getting full xp killing 80-82s. In my guild, people lower than that hunt with us and still get full xp with us. Make sure you're fighting something that will give xp to the highest person.

Hi,
I can't figure out where else to ask this, or beg for it. We REALLY need something like mentoring in EQ2 for SWG. I had a newbie player today wanting help learning the game system, and I felt absolutely helpless. One of the favorite parts of the game for me is grouping with new players and teaching them SWG, and I can't do that now. Even if I don't group with them, my level seems to affect their ability to get xp. I don't care if I get 0 xp when I'm grouped with them, I just want to be able to show them the ropes in the most logical setting, a group. And it's not like SOE doesn't know how, they have already implemented this system in EQ2.
If this system does exist in SWG, I've no idea how to access it, and if it doesn't, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE create it.
Thank you,
