based on posts i've read it seems possible for a guild to have multiple guild halls associated with it? Also, can guild houses be used like houses or do they always have to be registered as a guild the second you place them?

Yes, you can have 20 guild halls if you like. Guild halls work like houses. You don't even need to be in a guild to have one.

Yup, as Jutewr said you can have multiples in the guild. Whenever you are in a guild and place a guild hall, it becomes associated with the guild though, basically that means the guild is automatically placed on the entry list and you can't remove them unless you quit the guild and redeed/replace the hall.
But if you're not guilded, you can use them just like a house.
