Thread: Remote Guild Terminals functions?
I have been thinking about the future of guilds/PAs in SWG. Our correspondant is representing us well, and I hope that SOE starts giving us some interesting guild tools in the near future. The one that I am waiting for the most is guild ranks and MOTD. I realized that if this is not mentioned, MOTD would be reduced so here goes.
Sometimes the MOTD is used to announce PA functions that is taking place at that time, so members that login can see that there is an event going on. The problem that I face is to change the MOTD will probably involve going to the PA hall and using the guild terminal. If the event is on Dathomir, and the PA hall is on Rori, then someone with MOTD access would have to go all the way back to the PA hall to change the MOTD and go all the way back to the event location. After the event, they would have to go all the way back to the PA hall to set the MOTD back to something normal.
So, one solution would be to allow some of the guild terminal functionality to be accessed remotely such as changing the MOTD instead of being restricted to returning to the PA hall. Personally I think all that the guild terminal should do is allow you to destroy the PA or rename it, but I do see some merits to having the functions limited to the PA hall.
Note: I would rather see the MOTD be implemented first before investigating my idea, as it is more useful then remote guild terminal functions.

I agree we should have remote functions. I want to be standing on Rori next to some guy who wants to join my guild and be able to /guildinvite with out having to go back to Corellia and to my pa hall so I can do it. Just makes sense to me.
Yes...or the reverse: catch a new or sponsored member behaving in way that necessitates removing them from the guild, you could /guildremove (name) from anywhere and remove that person automatically, provided you had the permission to do so. /guildinvite (name) from anywhere would also rock. I can't tell you how many trips I made to my PA hall (1500m each way on foot, uphill both ways
) to invite the first crew of members of my PA. I prayed for this function every trip.
While we are at it...just make all the radial member commands available from a remote area. Oh, and if it ever happens please document it so we all know what the commands are. MOTD would be nice, but I bet the devs will forever have that on low priority because we can just put "guild" in the "to" address of email to send a guild wide email. If we get it, that too should be remotely manageable.
I do know that the Devs want everyone with an active PA to have a PA Hall. While many functions will be available through a forwardslash command (/guildremove is already one of them, and I think changing the MOTD should be another) there will be others that will remain accessible only through the guild terminal.
a guild management module you could put into a protocol droid would be even better and i imagine a lot easier to implement and makes the bloody things a bit more usefull )

My personal opinion is that Guild Management should be done totally through such droids or terminalsthat can be installed into any building. Then, we have no lot requirements, no forced theme of what our PA Hall should be, etc. You could have an entertainment PA (cantina), a criminal PA (tent), a military PA (base).
Back when Q asked the Player Community how they should impliment the PA system these were my ideas and many othersI might add. Why they didn't do this then is beyond me but I really wish this would be used.
I agree that most functions should be able to be used anywhere at anytime. Requiring a PA Hall wouldn't be a problem because you could add it as a requirement to keep the PA from disbanding and also allow some exclusive functions on it, such as renaming, disbanding, war, etc..
I really feel you should be able to at least /guildsponser anywhere or even /guildaccept people from a distance rather than requiring them to goto the actual terminal. Maybe make it so the new ranking system(Whenever it is implemented) requires the terminal to set up and use as well? Lots of ways to work around this and still compromise with what most guild leaders would like to see.
