Thread: Idea for additional PA feature: PA Combat Training

As many of you have noticed, most PA halls have a very cool open garden on the top floor. I instantly thought, what a great place to practice combat tactics among PA members. However, with the 3 incap, then death rule, you can't do this for very long before folks start dying and experiencing item decay. My proposal is that the garden on the top floor is considered a mini-battlefield, where combat can occur only within members of the PA. Deathblow is not allowed, nor does anyone ever die. Those of you who have played KOTOR, know that such technology does exist in the Star Wars Universe. The arena fights there have a similar force field, or something similar in that game, which reduces all weapons to stun, instead of kill.

I envision this in 2 phases, one being relatively easy, the other far cooler but more complicated:

Phase 1: PA members are able to fight amongst themselves by setting themselves up into various groups. Perhaps a combat training terminal could be placed there which would allow various rules to be setup (teams, damage types, perhaps even a scoring system to make a game out of it, etc.)

Phase 2: Through the cooperation of a BE, a CH, a DE, and a Doctor, various NPCs, droids, and creatures can be uploaded into the combat simulator. Perhaps BE deeds, and CH pet babies can be inserted into the system for analysis and then they can be called up for combat training. As an example, folks need some experience working with group aggro mobs with various status effects so a kliknik is uploaded into the system and then the PA members can have a "virtual" fight with whatever type and number of klikniks as they want. Over time, the PA would build up a library of combat targets to use. Including potentially various player profession configurations (perhaps limited to the PA members). I.e. I can fight the master TKA in my group, even though he isn't at the simulator at the time.

Other Considerations: No XP should be granted for any of this combat, nor should faction points change at all. The combat simulator could be a tool created by architects in concert with DEs perhaps and could have power and maintenance requirements, just like any other system.

Thoughts?

I really like ideas I have heard for Combat Training. I do have a concern to relate though... I have heard in the past that it is really difficult to make "areas" in game. Like no build areas, battlefield areas, etc. If we could do something that fit more into the dueling system maybe we'd have a better chance of getting it implemented???

Brainstorming on this would be fun!

That would be almost impossible. An interesting idea but you're going to have to settle for waiting 10 minutes after the end of battle 1. It really isn't that bad if you have more then 2 people up there, just do it in turns, 2 incaps then you're out. What I would really like to see is getting items placable up there...which has been expressed in just about every conceivable way by now but still. That way we can have a duel pit with more then just a brazier at either end. (well in a couple weeks after incorporating the PA hall)

To avoid item decay just have a couple of doctors on hand. Or don't incap three times in 10 minutes.

Another option would be to let a Officer/Leader flip a switch on the PA terminal that makes all members attackable to each other till its turned off.

I loved having the ability to practice with Guild members in UO.
