Thread: How to make cool videos for your guild
- MAKING FOOTAGE
To make video I used Fraps. More info at Fraps.com. The software cost about $30 but has a free version if you don't mind a "fraps" stamp. Fraps easily integrated with Star Wars Galaxies and most other games and is easy to learn. Once you start Fraps, just play the game as you normally do. You'll have a small "frame count" in one of the corners of your screen. Just hit the hot key you assign to begin shooting and the number turns red to indicate that you re recording.
- EDITING VIDEO
Well I discovered that my computer compes with Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP). All editing, integration and effects are done with this software. The learning curve is next to nothing. I pumped out my first trial video within a few hours. Teh Gorax video took me about 2 hours to edit still learning the software.
- ADDING MUSIC
Just plop in your tune (CD) and copy from Windows Media Player. There is an option to copy a song or songs right from the menu. Using Windows Movie Maker, just drag and drop teh song into the timeline.
- HAVE A ROOT CANAL
Ok where do you get the extra time? Have a root canal! I had my first last Friday and it will pretty much kill your weekend, giving you plenty of time to make videos (ouch!) - WATCH YOUR BANDWIDTH
Once you upload your video to your Web site or other FTP service, you may have limited bandwidth. My web site allows for 4 GM of transfer each month and I ate through half that in just 5 days. Your 2 minute video might be 8MB. Luckily one of our guild members has access to an unlimited FTP site and we are migrating our videos there.
Good luck and have fun with it and let me know if it works out. Who knows, maybe SOE will including video of the day in addition to screenshot of the day?

To save bandwidth for any file over 3mb, prefix the link with http://freecache.org/
So this: "http://www.mysite.com/mybigfile.avi"
Would become this: "http://freecache.org/http://www.mysite.com/mybigfile.avi"
This essentiallyregisters your linked file onproxy servers around the US and the world. If someone tries to download the file from your site, anda freecacheproxy server is closer to them than your web provider, then it will download it from the proxy server instead of your webhost, saving you all the bandwidth!
Read moreabout how this works at http://www.archive.org/web/freecache.php

I'm making some videos for my guild aswell , but i'm using 3d studio max 6.0 along with combustion 3. I'm trying to make a big space battle before JTL comes out and other misc scenes cut in between , the hardest part of the video is that i have to model alot oft he stuff that only SWG has , composite armor , swoop bikes and other pieces of technoligy that i'm adding just for sake of "realism"
Wow that sounds great! Be sure to post a link to your video when done I look forward to seeing it!
