I'm the leader of a small (10 person) guild. I'm looking for ways to delegate various responsibilities to guild members, as a way to make the guild more fun on an ongoing basis. I'd appreciate any ideas regarding particular structures, or guild roles that have worked well for you. Thanks.

One thing that is helpful is to delegate guild activities to a few individuals. As a guild leader organizing all your guild activities, people will depend on you for that content, which because of RL or other things going on in game you cant fulfill. Delegating this to other people shows your members that there are other leaders in the group, there is a constant flow of content and activities, and allows you to be a participant at times. It is also useful for members with different play times as they can coordinate activities around their schedule.

As far as leadership, you should have a few people you trust that have access to most of the guild commands on the terminal so they can manage the guild in your absence, or while you are off planet. Being the only guildie able to add new members or stuff like that can wear you down. I also try to encourage recruiting all the time. Unless you are a tight group of friends, numbers can wane without warning, so bringing one or two people in from time to time helps.

For RP, we have a mixed bunch in our guild, but I usually try to place a RP spin on all our activities, whether we are just hunting stuff off the terminals, running faction missions, or have some specific activity planned.

Lay down some basic guild ethics. For instance, Smug, Doc, artisan, and some elite crafting professions either give guildies free services or VERY discounted. Set up a system to share loot. Have a house that the entite PA is admin for to allow for easy drop off/trades amongst everyone.

Positions we have delegated out in SoD:

Treasurer - Collects the monthly dues of 10k. This money goes towards maintainence of our PA, Item storage, Resources house. Resources house has comunal goods that all the PA has access to. Also in there are HQ tools, HQ stations etc. Items has loot drops PA members are giving to each other. Sharing of loot to a guildie that can gain a direct benefit from it is essential IMO. PA's should be based on trust and a sense of a tightly knit community.

Events Marshall - Gets in contact with the more active members of the PA and plans events. PvP, PvE, RP, anything. One thing I will say for guild events is team speak is worth it's weight in gold. IMO for any good event TS is essential seeing that comunication is KEY in any larger scale event and speaking is 10x easier then typing.

Officer - Kind of a M.P. for the PA. They keep an eye over all PA members and make sure no bad apples stay in too long. You can make many different kind of officers that 'specialize' in an area. For example, one PA member has a good grasp on PvP tactics, make him the Tactics officer to train/help people that don't know the ins and outs of PvP. Same for PvE, if someone has a great grasp of PvE mechanics, have him teach the PA some of his lil tricks of the trade.

For a smaller guild just a few positions like these would do fine. Make sure the person wants the position you offer them otherwise they will most likely do a shooty job.

One important thing to consider as well is what kind of time commitment each position might require, and then consider which delegates can really fulfill those requirements. RL schedules can get tricky and sometimes people get bored easily and then drop off SWG for a while, really leaving you in a bind.

With that in mind, redundancies can be beneficial. ie. A Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer, PVE Leader and Assistant PVE leader, etc.

Ok here is what we have for guild structure. Our titles are based on a greek/ Roman theme consistent with the guild name. I hopethis gives you some ideas...

Political Structure

  • Probati
All new guild members start as PROBATI. The Probati title indicates that you have been in the guild for less than 4 weeks. This is an ideal time to become familiar with other guild members, guild structure, policies, rules of engagement and other events and activities. If you are new to the game, Probati also allows you time to become more familiar with SWG rather than on any specific duties within the guild.

    Probati Rights and Privileges:
*Sponsor new members on the guild management terminal.
*Access to Web site members area and message board system
*Ability to VOTE on guild issues and policies on guild message board system
*Ability to VOTE for member elected positions on the guild message board system

    Promotion to next rank:
*Patrician: Four weeks in guild (based solely on time)

  • Patrician
Promotion to the rank of Patrician is automatic after four weeks of guild membership and indicates you are a full member. You are more familiar with other members and guild policies and structure. If you are a new SWG player, you have now had the time to become more acclimated to the game and have enough knowledge to make better decisions about your characters roll in the guild, and professions you seek. As a Patrician, you should be more familiar with appropriate contributions to the guild.

    Patrician Rights and Privileges:
    *All Probati rights and privileges
*Admin access to the guild hall
*Ability to e-mail broadcast guild membership
*Ability to hold voluntary positions in the guild such as Consul and Praetor
*Ability to hold standard military ranks as a Imperator, Centurion and Legatus

    Promotion to Next Rank:
*Aedile: Eight weeks in guild (based solely on time)

  • Aedile
Promotion to the rank of Aedile is automatic after eight weeks of guild membership and indicates you are a senior member. You are extremely familiar with other guild members, guild policies and structure and have mastered at least one elite profession.

    Promotion to Next Rank:
*Quaestor: Based on recognition of contributions to the guild.

  • Quaestor
Promotion to the rank of Quaestor is based solely on recognition of significant contributions to the guild. Contributions including helping other members, financial contributions to the guild treasury, participation in official guild events, player activity, and a variety of other subjective behavior not so easily quantifiable. The Quaestor is the ideal guild member that does not hold elected position.

    Quaestor Rights and Privileges
*All Aedile rights and privileges including
*Accept new members into the guild. This is a major responsibility. assuming that a player with the title of Quaestor recognizes other good players and can make judgments as to accept or reject sponsored players.

    Promotion to the Next Rank:
    *Praetor: Elected position

  • Praetor (1 x every 10 guild members)
The Praetor is a senior member that has proven themselves as an active and contributing member to the guild and assumes the responsibility of helping new members to become acclimated to the guild. The Praetor also holds the ability to kick Probati from the guild if they have not proven themselves. The Praetor is also responsible for new member recruitment and ensuring a significant number of guild members for fun activities.

    Praetor Rights, Privileges and Responsibilities
*All Quaestor Rights and Privileges including
*Added responsibility to help acclimate new members to the guild and new players to the game. Distribution of guild welcome packages (wearable containers stuffed with cool things) and participate in all official guild activities when online.

  • Consul (x2)
There are two consuls for the guild who's responsibility to to help the Eminent Archon (Guild leader) to manage and run the direction of the guild including the formation of guild policies, structures, rules of engagement and other. In addition, Consul members are responsible for organizing PvE (player-vs.-Environment) events and activities such as dungeon raids (for example the Nightsister Stronghold), special in-game activities such as the Warren, Corellian Corvette, Death Watch Bunker, Geo Lab and other.

Any player, from Probati to Eminent Archon may organize events at any time. In addition, players may request the assistance of Consuls to promote and schedule their event.

  • Archon
The Archon is the Vice-Leader of the guild and takes over the guild in the event that the Eminent Archon leaves the game, decides not to lead the guild anymore, is incapable of leading the guild or unable to lead for any other reason, and directs the guild when the Eminent Archon is not available.

    Archon Rights, Privileges and Responsibilities
*All Consul Rights, Privileges and responsibilities including
*Well, just hang out and help the leader, he's a pain in the butt!

  • Eminent Archon (Guild Leader)
The Eminent Archon in the guild leader and sets fourth guild policies, structures and the overall direction of the guild. The Eminent Archon assists all guild members including higher positions. The guild leader is responsible for maintaining the guild hall, dedicate their lots to the guild hall, manage and pay for the Web site, domain name and other guild assets, manage the guild message board, settle disputes or differences with those not in the guild and yada, yada, yada.

NOTE: You can VOTE for a new guild leader at any time using the guild management terminal. Simply USE the guild management terminal and set your allegiance to the member of your choice. If a majority of guild members votes for one member (51 percent), they become guild leader and assume all responsibilities of Eminent Archon.

Eminent Archon Rights, Privileges and Responsibilities

Military Structure

  • Imperator - Rough Neck Leader

    Imperator Rights, Privileges and Responsibilities
*Leads the guild elite PvP squad, the Rough Necks
*Organizes and leads official guild PvP events such as guild duel contests, Guild Capture the flag with other guilds (guild War), Imperial base raids, Overt runs, battlefield activities etc...
*Chooses other players to fulfill the remaining four Rough Neck slots
*Chooses the Rough Neck support players
*Declare Guild War on the guild management terminal (for Capture the Flag only, not because he/ she hates another guild)
*Ability to LEAD a team to victory whatever your quest

  • Centurion - Rough Neck (x4)
You have proven yourself with a pure combat character template and appointed by the Imperator to be a member of the guild's elite PvP squad. You exhibit maturity, adhere to the guild combat rules of engagement, don't have a "mouth" and seriously kick butt.

  • Legatus - Rough Neck Support
Legatus, or Rough Neck support, are for those players that wish to engage in PvP but are unable to dedicate all their skill points to combat professions. It's essential that your non-combat profession be helpful to the Rough Necks. Examples of support professions include Master Doctor, Combat Medic and Squad Leader. There is no limit to Rough Neck support players.

In addition to having a strong battle template, as a Rough Neck you must also be a team player. There is no such thing as the perfect combat template (they all have their weaknesses) but there is such a thing as the "best" PvP squad. And that's that the Rough Necks will be.

Hmm okay, lets see now. Since you Roleplay it makes it easier. Okay first, if I may give you a suggestion for your PA hall, make it as Imperial as possible. This means keep the furniture shiny and classy, very sterile. In the basement, I'd suggest a couple rooms could be made out as prison cells (you could even use reinforced poles as bars) and have some small beds inside and such. And also have a meeting table area with a large dining table.

As for roles of the people in your guild. Keep it with an Imperial ranking system of sorts.
Leader: Warlord (or if your not interested in future space combat, try General.)
Commander
Sargenant
Luienteneut

Only have a few (maybe one or two) of these names codes. Now to keep a good roleplaying atmosphere, for roles of other players, I suggest an interesting approach. Have those that wish to sign up for the Stormtrooper Enforcement Divisions. Those that wish to be in it get full stormtrooper outfits, and you designate their names with TK 481 ish names that they are to call themselves when in armor (on duty) have them fight people if they want, or patrol cities.) For the crafters call them Imperial Research Engineers.
