Ok, I am the guildleader of my guild, mostly by default since I had the lots to place the hall. My account runs out in August. We have a person ready who I will transfer the guildhall to. We'd also like to have a new guild leader replace me. I've heard you can do the /set allegiance thing like for city mayors, but then I've also heard it doesn't work? Can anyone confirm if it does/doesn't work?
What would happen if I /remove'd myself from the guild? Would the guild still exist but just leaderless? That could be a problem because I believe I am the only one who can set permissions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I would not remove yourself from the guild I think that has created leaderless guilds in the past.
A majority of the guild (more than 50%) must set their allegiance to the new leader. If you have a lot of members that no longer play the game, you might want to kick them as it will affect your chances of the new leader getting a majority vote.
As far as I know, it works. Once everyone indicates they have done this, highlight the new leader and type /guildstatus to see if it worked, or just look at the guild information option on the terminal.

Thanks for the help. I'll hopefully try this out this weekend and let everyone know the results.

Just completely removing yourself from the guild without having a new established and voted in leader would not be a idea I would suggest. It could leave the guild leaderless until they can vote someone in, which can take up to a week.
I can tell you from past experience that it does infact work to use Set Allegiance from the Guild Terminal. I switched the leadership of my PA from one of my accounts to the other. It can sometimes take up to a full week for it to happen once you get 51% of the votes, so be patient. If you're planning to leave in August, I'd start trying to get everyone to vote in the new leader now. Sending out a Guild email with instructions is probably the easiest.
Mail to: guild
Instructions for setting new leader: Goto the Guild Management Terminal in the PA Hall and select the Manage Members(Or Member Management, one of the two), scroll and find the new leaders name, set allegiance to them and you're done!
Hope that helps.
