my one suggustion is dont be a people pleaser.. Make decisions and stand by them nothing you do will hurt you more than making a decision and caving because people didnt like it even though it was the right decision. Also dont be afraid to remove problem members because you dont feel its your place, again you will end up with more problems.

Some advice I can offer:

1. You'll never be able to please all the people all time. Doing whats best for the guild and the majority have to take precedent. That being said, be fair in your decsions and explain them as necessary. Creating a out-of-game forum will allow all your members to give input and help in decsion making.

2. Have a Drama free rule. As Ztepper suggested head problems off immediately, dont let them fester.

3. Promote team spirit through lots of scheduled activities. Fri and Sat nights are great times for getting lots of members together.

Most of all hang in there, its not going to be easy. As someone else suggested I would really hold an election for a new leader, without the guilds backing the title is worthless.

Having just retired as a guild leader and passing on the mantle to someone who I felt could do the job properly, I have this advice to give:

Set a limit for yourself. You can't do it all, so be willing to delegate tasks and duties to people. Where I went wrong was that I was trying to make it all work and it left very little time for me to do the things I wanted to do in the game. You have a guild full of people; use their talents and availability. You're all in this together.

Having a drama free rule is a good idea, but sadly, drama will rear its ugly head regardless. When it does, quell it fast. The damage even one psycho can do is substantial. Don't hesitate to act in those instances.

Be prepared for the relationships you have with people to change. You were one of the guys, now you're the leader. It changes things. Sorry, but its true. Accept it, or get out of this position. Not trying to discourage you, but you should be aware of this.

Establishing a web site for people to communicate out of game is a great idea; this can lead to a lot of good information being stored in a central location for the entire guild to reference.

Good luck and remember, you pay to play the game and have fun, too. Don't take it so seriously that it becomes a burden. Have fun with it.

If I might add a suggestion for the viewpoint of a non-leader position, please remember that you represent all the members of your guild, so any arguements, disagreements or conflicts you have with people in game will affect them as well.

two things:

1) free up 5 lots now... .you will need them any day now

2) they fixed the guild leader disappearing problems. - if he does not log on for 30 days then the guild immediately goes to a vote for new leader.

As leader of one of the oldest guilds on Corbantis...I only have 1 bit of advice. If a conflict or dissention start. Deal with it. Rumors about guildmates doing/not doing things can cause quite a ruckus. We have a single strict rule in our guild. If you've got a problem with someone...you either bring it up with them, or you bring it up with me. (the guild leader)

In the year and a half that I've been guild leader...I've only had to deal with ONE instance where people brought the situation to me. The faster things are dealt with, the less of a mess they become. (guess I should apply that same priciple to the mess in my car )

Humbly offers my teams website www.blackhawksguild.com as a site for laying out some basic guild fundamentals. Read the FAQ page as it has many helpful hints learned from the past three years running my guild. (thats not a typo - we're older than the game )

Hope it is of some small assistance.

I'm slowly entering this position my self. The best advice that I can give you that hs not been already said is... Have Fun... that is what a PA is about. Surround yourself with people that you like playing with, and people that like playing with you.
