Thread: Ideas for improving PA's

I been splitting my time between SWG and WoW beta lately comparing and contrasting the two games and one area that WoW is much better off than SWG is it's guild management features.

I think some of these would make EXCELLENT enhancements for SWG's player association model.

In WoW when you go to your friend's list, if you are in a guild there is a tab called guild. Here every member of your guild is listed, it shows if they are online or not, and even shows last time they were online.

This would save many of us a lot of trouble. I add EVERY member of my guild to my friend's list and people come and go over the months and my list becomes outdated. With this guild tab it is updated in real time as members come and go. The fact that it shows the last time they were on could be helpful to a guild leader that wants to clean up the roster too. For example, if I saw someone has not logged in in over a year, it is safe to say that I could remove them from the guild.

Another thing it shows you in WoW is what region a player is currently in if they are online. I think it would be cool to have that in SWG as well. Maybe not too specific, but just show us what planet. That would be nice touch.

Recruiting is also different. Instead of dragging the person over to the guild hall, I can invite them from ANYWHERE in the game even if they are nowhere near me.

I think if the developers ever have free time to enhance player associations these changes would add a lot of value to the game

I don't think the devs have done anything to work on PA except clear up a few bugs. But that Idea has been begged for more times than I can count. Unfortunately they have other things they want to see done first. But Im waiting for WoW and can't wait to see what it has to offer. And from the little youjust stated its looking real good

Yeah it has been a while since PA's got some dev time, but I think this would be a good investment of time/energy. I would guess 75% of the player base is in a PA/Guild so changes/enhancements to the PA system would benefit the majority of players.

Definitely a plus for gameplay.

Maybe Jascentia can whisper in their ears

That system is almost an exact copy of EQ's guild management features, which is something we have asked for bits and pieces of since we got a Correspondant. Once the devs get a lot of the other major issues cleared up in the game I'm sure they'll devote some time to improving PA features, but that's still a ways off yet.

This is all we are waiting for. Free time has been in short supply for the Devs lately.

Understood. Just wanted to throw this out there because I think it would reall enhance the game a lot

On a side note - another thing I WISH they would change and should be easy - member list on guild terminal should be alpabetized. Right now it appears to be sorted by character_ID in the database. Working through a list of 200+ members to find one to change permissions is a pain

Yes, a guild tab would certainly be useful. I could keep track of my guild without the weekly roundup of add/remove member emails to update my friends list with.

Yeah, it is a pain to keep my friend's list updated with guild members coming and going over time. A tab for that would be awesome

That would be very helpful for keeping track of members. There are other enhancements I'd like to see, and I have to say that guild management in this game is greatly lacking.

1. A bulletin board. Members with permission can post on it, like events, announcements, etc, and the membership can go check it to see what's on it. Maybe like an ingame calendar. Using in game mail for this just doesn't work so well, especially for members who get tons of mail (merchants and mayors especially) Be nice to have a place members can go in game and see this. Maybe a vid screen in the PA Hall, or just simply another tab on the ctrl+p window.

2. Voting/polls. Currently all they have is this ballot box thingy. Tell you what - it's always been a terribly bad piece of programming from the get go. I've heard they fixed it so it actually works. Problem is, anybody who comes along can vote on the thing. What about having it so you can set who can vote on it? Like PA Members only. That way you can hold elections, votes, polls, etc in game. It just doesn't have enough functionality as is.

3. DoctorGriggs mention of a system that automatically updates your guild roster in game- that's something that's absolutely necessary for guild management.

4. Ranking system in game for guild management. Guild leader, guild officers, etc. So you can organize your guild. As it is all of this stuff on this list of things has to be done outside the game using other software (like a website).

5. More chat channels. Not just a guild chat, but a chat channel for guild leadership. (basically a chat channel based on the ranking system in item 4.) The factional chat they tried to start would have been good too, but how about a chat for all guild (I use guild and PA interchangeably, sorry) leaders? This way the leaders of different guilds can plan stuff more easily. This would have to be factional as well - i.e. all imperial guild faction leaders chat.

To sum up, we need a lot more tools for guild management in game!

i agree that more PA tools would be great... but my vote goes with DoctorGriggs, asking for some of the points you mentioned isnt asking too much right now. so whent he devs do get time

keeping the list short and sweet without continueing to add to it would give us a better chance to get what we want imo.

So you all know, the Devs typically ask for two types of lists from me... A Top 5 and a Expanded List. So, I have the opportunity to highlight quick fixes as well as ongoing feature requests. When the devs are ready to flesh out PAs, we will be ready with the ideas.

Thanks for the info Jascentia, its been a while since i've posted in the PA forums. (was completely consumed by profession grinding :smileytongue

not to change the subject but did anything ever come from the factional PA hall ideas? or being able to place a factional flag outside our PA halls? or were the ideas shot down? i know some things wont be allowed due to it taking away from other aspects of the game.

and i reread the list of concerns.... havent some of those already been addressed and resolved? like being able to move items up... or did i just completely miss the updated list lol wont be the first time thats happened
