Thread: Edit: NERF GONE! Why the group XP nerf WAS not constructive
Grind !=content
Also, imagine the plight of the new player...
Grouping and group XP are FINE AS THEY ARE. Make this change, and noobs will never be invited into a high level group ever again. Groups will be limited in size to those who can kill the fastest, so that xp gain rate is fastest. This will only slow down the power gamer, but it will FREEZE OUT the new player. The system as it is REWARDS US FOR HELPING OUT OTHERS. This is a GOOD thing, if your goal is to make the game more accesable to a wider audience. Changing this will reduce the number of new subscribers who actually pay for that 2nd month, mark my words.
Certainly such an EXTREMIST change after such a system has been in place for months, and after several double XP weeks, is not going to be well received. Grouping as it is now made the CU easier to swallow. It is my contention that you will unmask the warts of the CU all over again if this EVER goes live.
Now we see a DETERMINED attack on character advancement. First, the absolutely HORRID nerf trial baloon floated in Pub 21 (and then removed). Then, the FS xp conversion nerf that DID go live.
It's obvious to me that SOMEONE in production (Dallas Dickinson) seems to believe that it's a good idea to make the "grind to level 80" take as much time as the grind to max level takes in games like EQ and WoW.
But this is a flawed concept in a game like SWG. First off, SWG is a SKILL BASED GAME, not a level based game, at least still mostly. Secondly, SWG is a GRIND BASED game, not a QUEST BASED game like the two I mentioned. Grind=mindless boredom. I view the grind as something to get OVER WITH, it is not fun in and of itself.
You can make the "grind" slower in games like EQ and WoW because you can advance via QUESTS, not endless slaughtering of Bols, as it is in SWG. I don't see this sort of quest mechanism being implimented in this publish. Until or unless something like this goes in AT THE SAME TIME, this change makes no sense and seems designed to increase content by increasing grind.
The bottom line: We need discussion here. We need a RED LETTER NAME here to discuss this with us. We need to know WHY this is being implimented, and WHAT you plan to do to address the obvious concerns.
You better listen to me. If this thing ever hits live, it will be the CU protest all over again. I'd think you all would want to avoid that. I don't want that to happen any more than you do. Leave grouping alone. Work on making soloing better. You don't need to ruin one to "fix" the other.
And there is nothing whatsoever wrong with players being able to advance quickly. As I said, this change will HARM accesibility of this game to a wider audience, and therefore, is not constructive.
As I said, the Devs MUST discuss this. I posted this in the most appropriate forum for this. If you don't discuss it, and don't listen to what the community wants, I don't think you will like what is likely (given the past) to happen. It serves the intrests of no one.
As I said, we need discussion. And we need the Devs to be willing to listen. If this change is to go live, DESPITE our opposition, then the reasoning behind it needs to be very VERY thouroughly explained, and a LOT of selling of this change needs to happen.

I dont understand the groupXP nerf either, I must admit......
I could understand a nerf on mission payouts considering the amount of credit farming that we have seen, but the credit farmers dont care about XP.....only those people that are truely playing this game, and not making amoney by Ebaying credits stand to lose anything by this measure.....
Slowing down power gamers doesntparticularly botherme, but screwing new players certainly does.....

This change is going to kill the game once and for all
I wonder how they decided this change
Dev 1: "Hey how about we nerf their xp gain so their grind will take even longer"
Dev 2: "Hell yeah! This will force them to take even longer subscriptions!"
Dev 3: "Word!"
Dev 1: "And it will take years become Jedi!"
Dev 3: "Woohoo!"
Dev 2: "More money!"

stop complaining and check in game, you still get the same xp.
Doesnt mean they wont change it, but as is you get the same amount, though the messages are screwed, saying you get like 100xp+1k-6k bonus
Try I was able to get 1201 xp for a lvl 82 bantha last night with insp buff... today I'm getting ~200xp for the same kill...
How about you check what you're saying.
If you ask me someone should remind the devs that they may be getting paid to be in the position they are in, but they forget they are screwing the ones who ultimately give soe the power to keep them there. My $45 isn't much, I know, but I'm not the only one ready to leave game after this moronic turn of events.
Not to mention the people who come in thinking they are buying a good game, but leave after renewing their subscription for the very first time due to the fact that they got absolutely nowhere within the first 30 days.
Hey devs /rude
Figure it out.
