600/1000 just for using pistol melee defense I once?
It sounds like you bought a weapon with really really bad decay resistance. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing what this value is at the moment because it doesn't show upon inspection. However, when the crafter makes it, should he opt to go with materials that have low decay resistance, the finished product inevitably decays at a speed that rivals the Nazi's in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I've bought a variety of top notch weapons, from an assortment of Master Weaponsmiths on Bria, had them all sliced, and am quite happy with the decay rates I've experienced. I have also noticed that some weapons tend to decay faster than others, but nothing to write home about. The weapon I own which shows the fastest rate of decay happens to be a DX2 pistol, which we all know the materials for it are harder to come by, and as such I suspect the reason for its quick decay is materials lacking in this area.
How can you avoid having this happen when buying a weapon? Simply do your research. Talk to a weaponsmith who is willing to make a custom weapon for you. Let him know that you are seeking a weapon made from high grade components so that its decay rate is significantly lowered. Be prepared, however, to pay more for said weapon. Part of the balance of this game between buyers and sellers is the assurance of repeat customers, and producing top notch weapons with high resistance to decay means that the weaponsmith will not be seeing that customer again for some time, so it will carry a heavy price tag.
