Thread: Should I join the pistol whipping parade?

I've posted a similar thread on the TKA forum and the title doesn't have anything to do with complaints on how cheap pistol whip is, or knockdown, or whatever. But your help would be greatly appreciated!

Originally I created a template (and I think its a nice and tight template btw) for the following:

Master Weaponsmith / Master TKA / Smuggler line for slicing and possibly dirty fighting.

But the more I see how the HAM usage on knockdowns are so incredibly high and how people are complaining that meditating is about as useful as taking a nap on a Tatoonie sand dune, I may switch my master TKA line to master Pistoleer. Even though a lot of peoplebecome that cookie cutter pistoleer, I for one do like the pistols as far as their versatility and ability to control (warning shot, anyone?)creatures.

Anyone up for a in-depth discussion between the two classes?

Especially about pistoleer abilities and skill mods? I know the power of pistol melee defense ... but what about the other abilities?

I am working on pistoleer and I like how I can control the creature, it makes strategy more fun and I laugh my ass of when I make sand people go prone with suppresion fire when im right on top of them. I just earned pistol whip and I dont use it that much I find i can use other methods more effciantly.

If you want my honest opinion: They aren't done messing with knockdowns, the balance that they lack, and the way they work in PvP.

I think it would be foolish to change your spec up for pistolwhip, as there is a good chance that 'meleedefense1' a.k.a. pistol whip will be changed so that it is unspamable sometime in the relatively near future.

However, meleedefeanse2 is a pistol whip as well, except it doesn't cost as much and does a little more damage. No knockdown effect... but still a nice way to defend yourself at melee range.

My suggestion, find a master doc, have him buff your action and quickness, then spam the heck out of the sucker while you're can. I'm soloing $20k missions on dath doing this (well, master doc myself so I took out the middleman) It costs me, on average after a buff, 3 action and 17 mind points to use a pistolwhip. Porr nightsisters don't stand a chance.

Cheap? Sure. Exploit? I think not. I still get killed a fair share since my mind pool goes quick, and I am actually completing the entire mission, not just killing the lair and running.

It's not such a pistol-whipping parade anymore.

Knockdown spamming is disabled due to high ham costs.

So it'sstill agood move in a pinch but you can't overdue it.

Suppression fire is AWESOME though. Warning shot is pretty good but I prefer suppression. It keeps animalsin range for the next phecnacine dart. If you're being chased by NPC it gives you a nice breather to get them further away from you.

The other night my friend, a TK master, was chasing a stormtrooper. I suppressed the stormtrooper to kneeling and my friend caught up with him and took him out. It was cool.

If there are more pistoleers the void for caribineer and rifleman will probably fill up anyway. Those weapons kick ass too, just in different ways.

I will forever love pistolwhip if only for the name. If any class had a "bitchslap" command, I'd want that too. When I saw the angry terrorist use it on me in the tutorial, it was love at first sight.

It is currently still very useful with a low-ham gun (and medic ability helps a ton). I hope it remains usefulwho knows.

There are lots of opinions, both professional and immature, adding their two cents about pistol whip.

If your going to get pistoleer you might as well get pistol whip, it's basically our only good move until stopping shot and then disarming shot2 at master. The nice thing about pistoleer is we spend less skill points to get some decent moves however we spend a lot more pistol weapon experience than any other profession, hence the title Master Pistoleer, hence why we should be best with pistols, not bounty hunters.

My template is Pistoleer/CH/Doctor, call it cookie cutter if you will, but the truth of it is you can add medic skills to any profession, making you that much harder to kill. Asa pistoleer my only chance in a duel or pvp is to get them close, melee close. Sounds stupid being a pistoleer and yet my best move doesn't require me to pull the trigger but there you have it. Pistol whip is all we have really. I love how BH's cry through they're mandalore armor when i spam pistol whip while healing my self. It's somehow unfair for me to spam a melee knockdown move and yet it's more honorable to spam a knockdown shot, someone help me here, I just don't get it.

Please read my new thread FUN THINGS TO DO TO BOUNTY HUNTERS! It may shed some light on the pistoleers dilema Chino.

I can't say, but we'll probably be nerfed, so be warned.

I PvPd vs a TKA master last night that used posture down attack with a ranged weapon (you could use lowblow which is better...for now), and then closed and TKA for the win (I think he used knockdown a few times, then a mind attack that did 200-380 damage per hit That is, if you love the melee style of fighting, I've seen folks be effective in PvP. It's more challenging, but a lot of fights take place in the city, and folks don't always have 64m range on you there.
