Thread: Pistoleer w/out BH or Smuggler

I'm planning to get doctor and debating what combat profession. I already have some pistols and smuggler but I realize I can't keep smuggler and master pistol.

Would I be better (esp. for PvE) if I dropped smuggler and mastered pistoleer or if I finished the Smuggler pistol line and went up two trees in pistoleer?

Or would I be better off mastering TK or Rifle to go with my doc?

Thanks.

Master Pistoleer is great in PvP, trust me. Stopping Shot with a high-end Republic Blaster can deal out 300 to 1000 damage shots in PVP. Smuggler is nice too, but Fanshot's speed might help you more, plus the accuracy, than just a move that you can't afford skillpoints on.

Skip Pistol Tech and keep Dirty Fighting. FD will keep you alive and the specials are vastly superior.

If you want to do doctor... dont' do pistoleer. Try rifleman, or carbineers even.

So in PvP all the damage you dish out is multiplied by 0.25? The numbers vary so much from shot to shot I never really thought about why the numbers were lower than PvE. I figured it was all the armor people wear.

heh, just pick up Combat Medic since you'll have Master Medic already for your Doctor prof. Disease and poison the hell out of whatever you are fighting and use the basic marksman pool specific attacks to finish them off. In the NPC raid on Coronet on Starsider the other night, a CM tossed some area effects into 15 stormtroopers. No less than 8 were afflicted and several didn't seem to need much encouragement to die. Overall, the CM and a few other rebels took out the entire group of 15 STs and 1 AT-ST in less than 30 seconds. I wish I had grabbed a screenshot of it.

Master Medic, Doctor, and Combat Medic will leave you 18 points to put in the ranged weapon discipline of your choice, and get the pool specific shot 1 in the other two ranged weapon disciplines (remember, you gotta have ranged support IV and Master Medic to open Combat Medic.)

The ranged profs pretty much balance out, though Pistoleer is probably the least effective (though it's still not overly bad.)

Then again, this is all right now. Who knows what the combat revamp will do to things.

I'm going to have to disagree about Stopping Shot.

We'll be generous and say you have a 235 max damage pistol, and just so happened to roll max damage.

235 x 5 = 1,175 damage (stopping shot multiplier)

1,175 x 1.5 = 1,762.5 (we'll be even more generous and say you had the target knocked down and unarmored and had no ranged damage mitigation)

1,1762.5 x .25 = 440.625 (PvP damage reduction)

You are looking at a maximum damage roll of 441 random ham damage in PvP with Stopping Shot under ideal conditions. Heh, good luck finding a knocked down unarmored brawler in PvP. If they are buffed and wearing decent armor, you will find yourself hard pressed to outdamage the natural regeneration of your target with this special.

Back to the original question: I would suggest getting the specials from Smuggler, then climbing some speed and accuracy from Pistoleer. You were asking about PvE I know, but I have to **edit** these rumors of untouchable PvP damage in the bud.

EDIT: the **edit** was supposed to be "n i p." Silly filter.

my master pistoleer/master smuggler/TK 4034, fully buffed, took out a line of stormtroopers today with fanshot (love the cone!) in under 30 seconds.

If you are going doc, go CM right now. it's the next uber profession, there's no good way to defend against it (yeah, yeah, the new food can add 12% of resists and you can stack 6, but that's not the best way of using your food buffs, and it's not permanent either) besides, if you are a master doc already, you can totally get CM in a day. just go and buff people all day in Coronet, you'll have that xp in no time (and a fatter wallet). CM poisons/diseases still stack and still incap, you can use them through walls, and you can target every HAM. of course, you won't have any real attacks, so you're relying on pure crafting in this build... poorly crafted disease/poison = dead CM.

With doc, though, I would really suggest doing TKM. or, ask yourself why you are doing doc... are you doing it because you like the profession, or because you don't want to wait 30 minutes to pay another doc 10k for buffs? it might be worth your while to find the doc and wait for the buffs, because unless you can buy some killer buffpacks, chances are you won't be crafting the best stuff on the block. But if you are a good crafter, eh, there's no reason to not do doc as your defensive part of your template... stacking is going away soon for defenses, so we will be wishing we had some more Defense in that area. but I will be buying my buffs (actually, getting them from my buffbot second account).

I've done the pistoleer grind 2 times now, and I can say it's not that fun. but the rewards at master are worth it. it's your call, the CM/doc build is just as good as a doc/pistoleer. maybe more so. but you won't have any defenses besides your buffs. If I was doing doc, I'd do TKM.

As my sig states I am a master doc/master gunny and it is a great combo. I eat up a lot of action with my specials and my doctor buffsmake it to bethat less of a burden. As for the comment about stopping shot being ohh soo un uber for pvp.....lol....I have hit for 1k in pvp with it, but lately everyone has tons of armor and defenses (and dmg mit) so my avg is 100-700
