It depends.
Defense acuity only works when unarmed or with a VK. Same with unarmed toughness, Unarmed Center of Balance, anything that says "unarmed" in front of it.
Dodge will only work when your pistol is out, it won't work doing unarmed stuff.
Other defenses like state defenses, mitigation, ranged/melee defense, etc. will work no matter what weapon you use.
Oh, also you can feign death and meditate no matter what weapon you have.

Dodge will only work if you are using a fencer or pistrol weapon the same has block will only work with a pike or rifle ect.....

This is perhaps a bit poorly timed what with RandonB's going away till Sunday, but perhaps it would be best if Neutral's prior Pistoleer FAQ were updated to reflect what we now know about Pistoleer? I mean, the concept of dodge only working with a pistol or 1h melee equipped is certainly not included in that.

I was wondering in the Triple Master template, do the defenses stack or do the Pistoleer defenses only work when u are using a pistoleer and the TKM defenses only work when you are unarmed.

The only defense mod that does not stack is Dodge. Dodge only works with a pistol or 1 handed melee weapon equipped. All the rest of the defense mod do stack.

Hi guy's, i'm a triple master ( smuggler,tkm and pistoler in case theres another that i'm not aware of lol) and have been for well over a yr now. I started out life on intrepid server but paid the £30 to move over to a eu server, i've kept my account going for the last yr even tho i've not really played.
Ok now i've got the details out of the way i would like to know if they are really going to be able to destroy my char? If all the rumours are correct i wil be seriously pissed off if all the time and money i've spent has been all a waste of time.
I hope you can understand what i'm saying here, and if my fears are real could whoever speaks for us lowly smugglers these days find out what they are going to do about it?

No, they won't destroy your character.
Yes, they will take away your tripple master.
Oh... and yes, there is a very long thread that discusses this in great detail. You might try looking there.

mmm correct me if i'm wrong here but if they are going to take away my triple master's then they are destroying my char. There must be something i can do too stop this? I begrudge paying the transfer fee only too have my char destroyed a month later. I spent alot of time deciding on what template to have.

They aren't going to destroy your character. You get to redistribute all your points into something different... for free. Its not so much losing what you have as you are gaining something new with none of the work. I mean Im a triple master too. I hate that Im gonna have to drop TKA, but trust me, I'll find out what sounds like it'll work nicely for me in the new system and thats what I'll become... without any grinding what-so-ever.
