I'd skip underworld and go for slicing 2 at least, it's nice slicing your own guns.

Yeah with novice pistoleer, get the Dirty Fighting skills until Last Ditch, with that special you can get pistol xp more easy, for Last Ditch is experienced as to be the best special for pistol.

ok so i have enough points to get underworld 4 and dirty fighting 4 in smuggler. i also have 40 points to spend on pistoleer (already have novice). i was wondering what should i spend my points for pistoleer on? and which order should i get all these skills in?

Well if I were you I would skip underworld for now since it doesnt do all that much and get 3 trees in pistoleer.

Marksmanship, Speed, Then its your choice either trickshot for defenses and specials or Dodge.

Well I got novice pistoleer then all of DF but you could go alot of ways in the end its all the same. The extra speed and accuracy helps alot but so do the specials.

I did DF first because I think the speed/aiming are things you can adjust yourself (faster gun/range mods). The specials on the ohter hand help you to take on bigger mobs, and so get more xp.
